Shield .45

No I'm paying attention, my EDC is a shield, I'm just saying a .45 the same size as a 9C probably would've been 'good enough" for a lot of people that are interested in a smaller .45
Believe me it's on my watch list of "want to haves"
OK, but what about a 9c sized 45 is it that you would like better than the Shield sized 45?

I honestly thought S&W would never make a .45ACP Shield. I said as much early on in this thread. Obviously I was wrong. I think S&W is going to ride the M&P line as far as they can. So, they might put out the size you're looking for yet.

I see it hasn't been added to the CA roster yet. I wonder if they have plans for a CA model? I love my Shield 9, but would be interested in the .45
Nope, never going to be on the CA approved list. In fact, there will never be ANY new guns added until they drop the micro-stamping requirement. No manufacturer makes it and none will ever make it. So, there are only three ways you'll ever see a Shield 45 in CA:
  1. Someone who has one moves to CA, brings it with them and decides to sell it through PPT.
  2. Your parent who lives in another state buys one and transfers it to you.
  3. An LEO buys one and decides to sell it through PPT.

Even if you do find one through one of these methods, it will be triple the MSRP.

Nothing I don't own any type of "C' I just figured with the minimal size difference between a shield and a C, it might be a little easier to handle and you may have been able to get in 10 rounds like the Glock G30S does.

I have almost pulled the trigger on an XDs (.45) many times, but didn't for some reason. Then the Mod 2 came out and I almost did it again, but haven't yet. I think I will try to hang on and see what one of these feels like in my hand before I fondle any more XD's. I certainly love my Shield 9.

Shield .45 is going to have too much snap for the 9mm guys. So most of them will stay with 9mm, if they are smart.

Im sticking with the Shield in .40 and the factory 9mm barrel. I have plenty of 1911s for the .45 fun.

Shield in .45 is many years too late, IMO.

I'm first on the list at my LGS but I've already cooled on the Shield 45. This old fart shoots the sub-compact 9s much better than the larger caliber versions and that's what I need in a self defense gun - practical efficacy.

The Shield 45 is a "I want one" kinda piece for me and I really must quit falling victim to the syndrome.

I'll go give it a look see when one arrives at the shop but I'm going to try and be realistic and let the next fellow in line have it.

I'm making no promises however... ;)

It's a never ending cycle. Now the hot item everyone is waiting for is the Shield 45. After that hits the market everyone will be anxiously awaiting the Performance Center version of the Shield 45. After that who knows?
It's a vicious cycle that no one can keep up with, but it's sure fun trying.

I'm another one that really "doesn't need this" but I alternate between shooting .22LR and 9mm and .40 all the time. A .45 that I can carry that is actually shootable has got my attention and I wouldn't mind having something in that caliber. I was leaning towards the glock 30S but I will wait for these to become available and hopefully get a chance to do a side by side.
Rastoff I occasionally carry my FS .40, both IWB and OWB, the size of a shield is definitely easier but if the difference between a shield .45 and a C sized .45 meant easier to shoot and 10 rounds, that's kind of a no brainer for me, I'd go with the C sized. I'm in New England, I can carry concealed OWB (even my FS .40) pretty easily 7 months out of the year.
I only carry my shield in the summer though.

I just got a XDS .45 and put 150 range rounds through it. I like it a lot and I will alternate carrying my 9C or my P938. Loaded, the XDS is only 5 oz. heavier than the P938. And the 9C is 5 oz. heavier than the XDS.

The .45 XDS is smaller and thinner, than the new .45 Shield, but the Shield holds 1 more round.

Have an XDS 45 with the 3.3" barrel and I find it's recoil to be quite manageable. Anticipate the Shield 45 will be just as manageable since it is similar size and weight.

Do like the addition of the 6rd magazine Springfield made a while back. I sometimes insert that magazine for carry instead of the original 5rd (flush) and carry the extended 7rd magazine as the spare.

Tend to use a double stack most times, but the single stack is nice when I need to go with a deeper concealment holster option. Will need to check out the Shield 45 when they start showing up to see if there is enough benefit to add one.

As of this writing, I'm on the fence. Like someone else said, I tend to fall into the "gotta have the latest and greatest thing" category. Truth is, I don't really need a .45 Shield. My .40 works just fine. But, we shall see. When they get one at my local range, I'll give it a try and make a decision then. Besides, I'd have to get a double holster because I'd want to carry the .40 and the .45 at the same time.

I like my XDS .45 but I want to compare with the Shield .45 as soon as one shows up around here.

Got an email from Quantico Tactical saying Smith & Wesson is going to start shipping the M&P 45acp Shield, by the end of the month.
At least that is what they are being told.

They told me same thing

and my LGS told me today that it will probably close to a year before we see a Mass compliant version hit the stores.
So once again I am on the lookout for a G30S :(

On paper, comparing the .45 Shield, G30S and XDS .45, the Glock is a great choice giving you 10+1. The XDS is a lot smaller and the most concealable, but only 6+1. The Shield will be a little larger than the XDS and 7+1 capacity. Living there in Mass, the G30S is probably the better choice, given your handguns must have a 10 lb. trigger pull and 10 round max capacity.

10 pound trigger only sold as new. Once we own them we can do what we want to the trigger so that would be taken care of, the capacity of the G0S is attractive , but I'm wondering for "shootability" which one would be best. Again I'm thinking the Glock wins again. Hopefully the Shield will be available sooner so I can compare.
