Hi all just got my shield few months ago and there is a big difference in inserting the 8 round magazine compared to the 7 round. I have to press really hard when inserting the 8 round magazine. Should I be concerned? Is it a recall or a problem? Thank you

I thought they only made the 6 & 7 round mags for the Shield. When someone referenced 8 rounds, I thought they were refering to the "eight" round when using the 7 as in the pipe.

It depends on caliber. The 9mm Shield comes with a 7- and an 8-round magazine. The .40S&W Shield comes with a 6- and a 7-round magazine.

Yeah I have the 9mm. It's just annoying when qualifying and I have to insert the magazine in the gun while holstered and I have to tap it really hard.

They're a bugger to slap into place while holstered.I recently recert'd on my LEOSA carry and had the same issue with my Shield 40.

The 8 is harder to insert than the 7, as I've seen it. Easier now, as I have loaded the mags many times (have about 2700 rounds through mine, always using both mags alternating).

Yep, they can take extra effort to lock in when the slide is closed. Mnay have complained when try to top off to 8+1. There's just not a lot of room left to depress the 8th round.

This also happens with the FS and Compact with using 10 round mags (for limited mag states). Some will clip a coil off the spring or trim the follower a tad. Plenty of Youtube vids around.

I have to slam my shield mag in when the slide is closed but I rarely ever need to do that as mine, for the time being, is a range toy/sock drawer gun.

I had the opposite problem with my 9mm when she was new. The 8 rounder would go in fine, but the 7 rounder was really stiff and wouldn't seat without a good thump or push. It has gotten better though as I am approaching 1000 rounds fired. Keeping the slide open when reloading makes it very easy.
