new Shield w 200 rounds of Federal fmj through it two days ago. I went to take it down to clean today and the slide is sticking. I lock back the slide after mag removal, use sear disconnect, manipulate takedown lever 90 degrees, pull back on slide and it just goes into battery. I attempt using a traditional trigger pull breakdown after replacing the sear disconnect and utilizing the takedown lever. The slide feels fine and so does the trigger pull. Any ideas? Here is a short video, pardon the quality http://youtu.be/CRvU6KdhG-A
I have owned an M&P 45 for years without this issue. Frustrating is an understatement. Anything helpful is appreciated

Happy Holidays! Thanks!

I want to see how this turns out. Try moving the sear disconnect up and down a couple times and retry.

I feel your pain because something is definitely wrong. Excellent video demonstrating the problem.

In the video, the first time you showed the view down the Mag well I could not see the left side of the well where the sear disconnect would be. In the second view down the mag well, I could not see the sear disconnect. I am not sure if it's view was blocked or if it was returned to it's firing position.

Is the Sear disconnect remaining down?

Thank you for the replies. The sear disconnect was wctivated initially until significant resistance was encountered. I then attempted takedown. Later in the video, i disengaged the sear disconnect and successfully dry fired. I then attempted takedown the classic way. Racking the slide before anytown steps feels great, the trigger feels normal for an M&P, and nothing seems to have any effect. I am thinking some sort of spring hangup or something catching the sear/near the sear.

Mine does the same thing. I blamed it to be somehow related to the APEX hard sear I installed but maybe not. I keep moving the slide though and it comes off after a couple tries. Very interested to see what the root cause is.

I'm just wondering if the take down lever is not fully disengaging the barrel lug when lever is moved into the down position??

Well I took out the striker-firing pin assembly and I still have not been able to take down the slide. Looks like it is a take lever or spring issue. With the slide open and locked, the rod is in perfect alignment. When I manipulate the take down leaver, the rod shifts forward, as is with every semi-pistol I have ever taken down. I am out of ideas.

I couldn't tell, did you try pulling the trigger rather than using the sear dis-engage lever?

There is an option to try. With the slide locked back see if the takedown lever can be rotated clockwise far enough that the trigger pin can be pushed out. It will be close, but if it will clear the lever then you can remove the locking block and sear housing. Push out the trigger pin, rotate the release lever and drive out the locking block frame pin. Then remove the sear housing frame pin. Release the slide to normal lock up position and you should be able to pry both the sear housing and locking block up using a small screwdriver (or similar) under the slide, a little at a time. You can also push up on the lever. Eventually you can get both out of the frame. Then the slide will be off and you can see what was the issue. I have never tried it but it should work.

One other prior check is look at the small vertical extractor pin. It should be flush with the top of the machined slot in the slide. Wondering if somehow it was loose and slipped down and is preventing the slide from moving forward. On my Shield the pin lines up to a step on the inside of the frame that would prevent the slide from moving any further forward than what is shown in your video. If the extractor pin dropped a long way, the slide would not function properly, but if it dropped only about 1/4 inch it would allow the slide to go fully back but not allow the slide to go forward past the lockup point. A lot of speculation as I doubt anyone on this Forum has see a problem like this.

Thanks for the replies (especially Bob). I attempted normal take down again per manual instructions. I have not encountered grinding or resistance when manipulating the slide or take down lever. When I rotated the take down lever down, half of it came out. The take down lever/bolt broke directly below the bore the of barrel. It is going back as soon as S&W opens up after the New Year. Disappointed.
