Have a Shield 9,really hard to rack. Should I trade it for an easy rack? Also have 2 magazines for it. Are they interchangeable?

Mine was kind of heavy for my beat up 71 year old hands. I put a slide assist wing on the back that works good. I carry it in or on the waist and you don't know it's there.

Answer to 1st question: if you so choose. Finding a decent trade may be easier said than done, though...?

Answer to 2nd question: No, they are totally different magazines.

Cheers!

Only the Shield9 Plus & Equalizer9 use the same magazines
All other M&P Shields M1.0 & M2.0 use a specific magazine in calibers 9, 40 & 45
Even the older Shield EZs have specific single stack magazines in 380,9mm & 30 super carry

As far as a rack assist device there are many different types out there
Some are better than others JFYI

If you're planning to carry your gun, the rack assist devices often create an uncomfortable situation.

The rack assist device extends beyond the width of your firearm so that the overhang gouges your side.

If you're thinking about trading, consider a Shield 45. The 45 is much easier to rack than the 9, and is way more accurate. My Shield 45 was love at first shot, and my Shield 9 has been a shelf queen ever since. Most of the members here love theirs, so my advice is to rent the 45 at your friendly local range and see how you like it.

Thanks so much.

My 9mm Sheild 1.0 was a bear to rack when I first got it. After a few range trips and a few hundred rounds through it, the slide relaxed a bit. Also, switching to a very "slippery" slide lube (TW25B) made a noticeable difference in racking as well.
Attaching a Hogue grip sleeve helps with handling in general and especially recoil mitigation, but I didn't have the strength to install it and needed hubby's help.
Good luck.

My friends, in my age group, (70 +) find The Shield Plus easier to rack than the Shield 9 or 45. And just a wee bit more than the 9EZ.
The Equalizer seems to be a 9EZ with higher capacity.

Around here, older Shields aren't bringing much for trade-in. My local shop has become reluctant to take one unless it has the box and extra mags. The Plus models have the higher value. I imagine the same is going to happen with the older EZ models now that the Equalizer is out.

I find the Plus easier to rack than the 1.0 or 2.0 versions. Not real sure why that is but it seems that way.

As far as the EZ is concerned, I had reliability problems with both the 380 and the 9.
