I spent Saturday putting rounds through my M&P Family: my newly repaired-and-returned 15-22.... my Shield 9mm, and my M&P 22 Compact. I had great fun and success and wanted to note a few things...

As for the 15-22, I detailed this at length on its subforum. I had suffered a Kaboom the day after Thanksgiving when, after shooting a few hundred rounds of Mini Mags and AutoMatch, I had put in a magazine of CCI Stingers. The 3rd round kaboomed it; I therefore needed to return it to S&W who successfully repaired it and I had great fun testing it out on Saturday.

The Shield 9mm is my dedicated every-day-carry gun... While I try to shoot it as much as I can when I can, I of course didn't buy it as a range gun, I bought it as my personal protection day in and day out, so I don't shoot it as much as I'd like to be honest. However, I did get to test out a few boxes of Federal steel-cased 9mm FMJs, which I found at Walmart back in like October for $9.99 (whereas the exact same ammo but brass cased is $14.99, a 50% increase!) Well 100 rds of this stuff (all Walmart had and has had since I found it) went down the pipe of the Shield perfectly, with decent accuracy, and without a single hitch. I tried to induce a problem with rapid fire/rapid reload/more rapid fire, no go. Nothing but net, purely perfection. Just something I thought the Shield community would like to know... I know have hundreds and hundreds, maybe coming up on 1000 rounds, down my Shield, without one single problem round- not one. And I have shot 115 gr FMJs of various brands, 124 gr. Federal HSTs and Hydra Shoks, and a bunch of 147gr Speer Lawmen and even a couple hundred 147gr Winchester Black Talons (I was fortunate to have a family stash of a few thousand of these, and as they are getting on in age, it's fun to bust caps with them every now and again. In fact the accuracy and ballistics of these 20+ year old Black Talons are SUPERIOR in all ways , amazing accuracy, penetration and expansion. I actually carry these, they're that good!!).

As far as the M&P 22 Compact, I got to try some new ammo than I had been using and had tremendous success. After initial mags of both CCI Mini Mags and Federal AutoMatch, I had put a solid 550 box of Federal Bulk Pack 36 gr HPs through the gun. It shot them satisfactorily but I did have a few hiccups in the beginning. However, now that I had put a good 1000 rounds down the gun, I decided to branch out... and I went with both Federal AutoMatch round nose ammos and even some of Winchester's 37 gr Super X varmint ammo (that comes in 100 rd plastic boxes just like CCI Mini Mags ) which fired very nicely and very accurately... If I could only shoot Mini Mags in all my 5 22s, I would, but I can't , so it's always good to find new ammos. the M&P 22 Compact continues to impress with its accuracy, reliability, fun factor, and hand-feel etc. It's a great little gun and an awesome member of my firearms family.

Hope my little half-a-range-report helps someone out there
