Do you carry with the 7 round flush mag for concealment or with the 8 round extender?

I'm leaning toward the 7.

I don't carry my Shield 9 very often (I prefer my M&P 40 compact), but when I do, I carry 8+1, because I want to maximize the number of rounds I have available. (As many have written on the Forum, no one who has ever had to defend themselves has ever said, "I wish I'd carried fewer rounds.") I also have wide hands, so I prefer the larger grip.

However, that's me. What is best for you depends on a number of factors, such as how well you shoot your Shield with each grip length, how well each grip length fits your hands, how easy it is for you to retrieve your Shield from your preferred carry position with each magazine, how comfortably your Shield carries with the 7-rounder vs. the 8-rounder, etc. You can decide how best to carry by using the old prescription for getting to Carnegie Hall: Practice, Practice, Practice. With both magazines.

Good Shooting!

My number one rule for carry is carry the biggest or most you are comfortable in carrying.

I dont yet carry but when I do it will be with the 8 rounder in my Shield as I do not shoot quite as well with the shorter mag.
As its the 8 rnd mag that I'm better and more comfortable with, that is what I'll practice with and carry.

I carry mine with the 8, because 7 is better than 8 to me. I also carry it appendix in a Gcode incog eclipse. I'm not a big guy (5'10) 175 and it's like it's not even there.

I actually carry 10, I bought some internals from a company called Mag guts which extends my 8 by about a quarter inch. Still doesn't print.

When I carry my Shield 9, it is with the 8 round mag. I have big hands and the extra length on the 8 round mag gives me a much better grip than the 7.

I guess I'll buck the trend.

Since I shoot my Shield much better than I shot by G43, I sold the G43.
Now I read about mag spring issues. Ugh!!!

But, the Shield had become my main carry gun.
I carry with the 7 round mag, +1 in the chamber.
I like how the short grip doesn't print.

When I'm going to more urban areas, I stick an extra 8 round in my pocket.

Carry with the eight round magazine and also have a pachmeyer grip glove on it to fill out the grip. Before retiring I carried a Glock 23 at work so was used to double stack thickness.

I sold off my Shield 9 and just received a new 2.0 today. Haven't had a chance to clean it yet, much less fire and carry it. Since selling the Shield, I've been carrying an H&K VP9SK (double stack, 10 rounds).

When I did carry the original Shield, I carried it with a 7 round magazine and an extra 8 round in my pocket. The reason for that is that the bottom of my palm is chubby and keeps the 8 round magazine from dropping unless I radically change my grip. So, with the 7 round I could drop it quickly and reload with the 8. I assume it will be the same format once I begin carrying the 2.0.

My opinion about printing is that, unless you're carrying something like a Desert Eagle, the only people who will notice you're carrying is other gun people.

I have converted the 7 round to 9 with the Strike Industries extender, and a couple 8 round mags to 9 with the magguts springs. I plan to eventually make them all 9 rounders. I carry 9+1.

I do the same. That grip has a glove fit now to me almost custom to my hand

I have carried with both. I also have 2-10 round magazines from promag that I use at the range. I have not carried with them yet.

Your length of grip is not as important for concealment as your choice of holster, belt and location.

With a good Appendix Inside the Waistband holster (JM Kydex) I have no problem carrying a full size M&P with a proper cover garment. So when I carry the Shield in warmer weather and just a T-shirt to cover, I use the Mag Guts + 2 extender on an 8-round mag (10+1 on board) with a spare 8+2 mag IWB (again from JM K) on my left side. No printing problems at all.

AIWB is the most concealable and accessible position for a large or small gun.

Good equipment = good results.
