Shield 9mm jam, ammo??

So I just bought a new shield 9mm bla bla bla..
took it to the range, had 100rnds of speer lawman 124gr and 100rnds of herter's 115gr..

The lawman's jammed on me once and the herter's 3 times..
Note, I did NOT clean the gun when I received it. If you can buy a glock and run 1000+ through it brand new then I should definitely not have a problem with a smith..

Secondly yes, I know I shouldn't be running these damn russian rounds but ammo is scarce, and what about the 1 jam with the 124gr ammo..??

Got home, cleaned her real nice. Plan on taking it back to the range this weekend, if not next.. We shall see the results..
ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS ISSUE??

Yep. Same experience on a M&P 9c and a Shield 9.

Page 11 of your manual states:

"Some brands of ammunition may cause difficulty in extracting
spent cartridge cases from the chamber. If this situation occurs, thoroughly clean the chamber with solvent. If this condition persists, we recommend changing to another brand of ammunition."

My FTE occurred on both new guns in the first couple of magazines. After that, I had no more problems.

K, I'm hoping cleaning this thing fixes it.. I was extremely turned off when this happened.. Luckily I wasn't with anyone or else I would have felt like a damn fool. I speak so highly of this shield, then the second I get one and take it to the range, she jams up on me. :[

The other thing to consider is the possibility of "limp-wristing". More than a few people have this problem with polymer framed pistols. Do a search on youtube for some very good videos on the subject matter.

I am not saying this is your problem, I only bringing it up as a possible answer to your problem. We should leave no stone unturned when it comes to solving the problem before blaming the firearm.

I have a number of S&W's, and some of them came packed with grease. Cosmoline we called it in the Army. We used to pack our weapons in that stuff before shipping them overseas. Probably could have dragged them behind the boat the whole trip and the weapons wouldn't have rusted.

But once we retrieved them from the ship, we cleaned all that preservative out of them or they'd fail to function properly.

Maybe Glock doesn't pack their guns with grease when they ship them. I don't know. But S&W does... some really get a LOT.

You're right, I didn't fire it. But I did do a hell of a lot of research on the gun before I was ready to buy one.. Does that count?? And what I mean't by speaking highly was I would tell friends and co-workers to check them out as they were a nice gun for conceal carry.. NOT worship the gun as my one and only piece I shall ever need..kinda way..

Who says that? And also I was just commenting on the fact that I put 200 rounds through a SHIELD and it jammed a lot (4) which I never heard anyone ever talk/post about.. Just kinda took me off guard and was wondering if anyone else had this issue or did I get a gun that I'm going to have to get work done on..

For what it's worth, Khars used to be (may still be, haven't had any reason to check) absolutely legendary for FT-everythings in the first 200 or so rounds. Break-in is not unusual.

Right, I think it's unacceptable. point, blank, period. It does say to clean it, I however purposely didn't for the fact that any other gun you buy for $400+ should be able to put up with some abuse right out of the box..

Pardon me, but that's nuts. Nearly all guns ship from the factory filled and covered with things that protect them in shipping and storage and are not intended to be left in/on the gun when its used.

I know my M&P22 and my M&P40FS were PACKED with grease... My others not so much.

I always clean a gun before firing it, but I also have never bought a gun anywhere that I could take it out back and let a few rip.

Anyway, lack of cleaning can cause problems, or it could be operator issues (no disrespect!) like thumbing the slide or limp wristing.

I'd clean and lube it and see what happens.

So, you've established that it's not limp wristing, and it shouldn't be because it's greasy (I never clean mine either before shooting, frankly).

Must be a bad one. I'll take it off your hands.

Honestly though....I did have problem with one box of Speer Lawman in my M&P 9 full size. It was a mess. Wouldn't cycle and then I couldn't rack the slide until it cooled off. Happened every other round. Packed some different ammo on top, and every time it hit the Speer, it resulted in a type 3 malfunction.

The Shield ate them though.
