I loaded my mags, both 8 and 7 round to max and let them sit. I shot about 400 rounds but I'll be darned if I can seat the 7 round mag if it's topped off and loading it into the gun with the slide closed. If I carried the 7 rounder as a spare backup I'd only trust it with 6 rounds.

Has anyone here modified the Shield mags? I've see the videos on cutting the followers on the 9C and FS guns but not the Shield. I would never consider cutting the spring.

Just about everybody I know with a Shield on this forum seems to have had this problem. It will get better with time. I said this before the Shield has the stiffest mags of any gun I've owned.

My magazine is also very stiff.

I found if I place both thumbs on the bottom plate with palms on opposite sides of firearm and all 8 fingers on the top of the slide and squeeze the magazine seats with little effort.

Make sure gun is pointed in safe direction and safety is on if you try said technique.

Mine are also very stiff. I insert the loaded mag with MUCH vigor! In other words, I SLAM, the mag home with the palm of my hand. Have not had any issues doing it this way. Keep the muzzel pointed downrange, just in case, and if it makes you feel better, put the safety on.

They are pretty stiff to fill full and it does take a real slam to seat the mag in the shield. But my tactical instructor always told us to make double sure you slam that mag home hard in a crisis situation or anytime so you don't drop a loose mag or one that hasn't seated properly. A dropped mag in your gun is like standing there with your pants down.

That in itself might be enough to chase the BG's off or they could be rolling around on the ground laughing there arses off. Thus giving you time to re-insert the mag.:o) ...anywho. I just carry one in the chamber out of the mag and when the slide locks back, reload and slingshot the slide forward on the fully loaded mag.

i cut 1 coil off my 6 rounder and 1/2 coil off my 7. now i can load them a bit easier, helped my FTF's, and installs are much easier... there is NO reason they need to be that still. my wilson mags with a 10% heavier spring in my 1911 might be HALF as stiff as the shield mags...

I really don't get it here.... what is wrong, I have absolutely no problem loading my magazine, no problem incerting the mag with one in the chamber. Come on guys... grow a nut!! In fact I just removed my mag again and pushed it in without having to palm slam it... this is getting ridiculous what some these complaints are. What the heck is going on. I find it hard to believe there is a variable in the springs of these mags where mine is any different than yours...

Maybe the magazine disconnect safety in the California model will help. One can hope right.

I have had the same issue with the 7 rd mag. The 8 rd mag is working perfectly. I have been working with semi-autos for 40 years and this is the first and only mag that this problem has occurred. My experience is with Colt, S&W, Ruger, Walther, and Sigs. Never have I had to slam a mag in any of these semi-automatics but the Shield is one that has this problem... It is not the person, it is the mag!

Ya know Joe.... now I had to go find my 7rd mag, don't use it for carry, just at the range a few times and as a back-up.. ok, it's a little harder getting the last rd in, but no problem. Yes, it is harder than most other mags, but really.... come on.. as for slamming the mag home, not much different than the 8 rd mag. Because it sits flush with the bottom of the grip it is a little awkward. If you have other smaller compact semi's, you may have the same situation. I have a 380 cal Colt, it seats flush with the grip and is a little awkward working with these big paws..

I use the little sissy reloader from my glock. Although it doesnt fit the single stack shield mag like it does the double stack glock mag. However, it does work and it does help get the job done.
