Hi all,
Just got a MP Shield 9mm no safety and took it to the range lastnight.

After i seat the magazine and rack the slide, the slide does not go completely forward, it is like a few centimeters off and therefore the round is not chambered... I would either have to pull the trigger or manually push the slide forward to completely close it before i can take my first shot...happens everytime after loading a magazine.. put 100 rounds thru it and it did it everytime... Is this normal?? Or does it need to be broken in...

Are you releasing the slide by hand or using the slide release lever? If your doing it by hand chances are you're riding the slide forward thus not allowing the spring to push it all the way forward.

If you want to continue doing it by hand you can but you have to pull it back and just let the slide go and slam shut

I do it by hand. And i believe I just yank the slide back and let go but I'll pay more attention next time. I do this with my other gun and haven't had issues. But this gun is smaller so I may not be use to it.

No. I did not lube or clean it. Straight out of the box. Should I clean and lub all firearms before using it?

Yes. From the factory the guns tend to have a little gunk in them, and are not lubed. This may have added to your problem, but I think the shield is just tighter than your other guns and it's hard to get the slide pulled completely to the rear before running some rounds through it. I believe you may be riding the slide a bit, or you're just simply not giving it enough oomph when you pull it to the rear.

Pull that slide back and let it slingshot forward. Let the spring do it's job it should seat just fine..

Thanks everyone. Gonna go clean her when I get home. Gives me something to do.

leave your mags loaded, the springs are very tight and push that first round up real hard so it takes a lot of pressure to get it moving to the chamber. If you clean and lube it, leave the mags loaded pay attention to how you sling shot the slide your next trip to the range should go very smooth. good luck!

Also when you release the slide extend your grip arm and keep your slide arm close to your body as you let go almost pulling the slide out of your hand it helps to make sure you actually release the slide and don't ride it. It's what worked for me with my shield.

Release the slide with its lever when pulling it back by hand will not work I let the gun do all the work

Empty that gun and double check as you have to pull the trigger to take the slide off. The springs on the Shield are really tight so what others have already said will most likely work for you.

I figured it out. Just gotta rack it with some force. Probably not use to the small size of the shield or maybe Cuz it's new and I was just babying it. Lol. Thanks everyone. Mission accomplished. Racked it 5 times successfully.

I stopped pulling the trigger to take it apart. I Just use a screwdriver now to pull that lever down.
