so i got a shield 40 for 370 otd no tax since i got it at the px on post. I come home and notice that the trigger was way heavier than the one he showed me in the case. I look on the box and it said 10.5 lb trigger:mad:. I called them back and told them that the one they showed me was not the one they sold me and all they could do was refund me another 10% so i ended up only paying 335 otd but have this awful trigger. I dont know if i should be mad or glad haha.

You got the MA compliant Shield it seems. Sounds like an Apex kit is in order. I have the "normal" Shield in 9mm and the trigger on it is fine for me so I haven't added the Apex, in your case I probably would, either that or start doing index finger curls.

Dont feel bad
We got 2 with a 8.5# and 9# pull when new
We installed the apex kit in them

Yup, the crappy MA trigger. Like the Shield I purchased and almost all my other striker fired pistols, a trigger job is mandatory.

Another option would be to order a non-MA trigger assembly from S&W. Might be cheaper than APEX, dunno ...

This happens to us all the time at work. The dirtbag distributors don't verify what guns they are selling to what state. While a Mass gun must be sold in Mass, it can be sold in many other states, even though it's not required. Just 2 weeks ago we received 2 Mossberg AR-15's that the buttstock didn't collapse. We finally noticed that it was pinned, & meant to be sold in NY, even though we are in Florida. In the end it was cheaper to put real buttstocks on the rifle, but the fault lies with the low life distributor who sent NY guns to Florida. GARY

After talking to the head manager who was a little helpful im not too upset. My wife works at the local gun shop and get shields in all the time but since i don't pay taxes on post and they were marked down so low i hopped on it. What happened was they had one shield out under the display. So they asked do you want the 40 or 9. Now me thinking they would never be stupid enough to sell me a MA shield i said 40. Funny thing is i went in there today to get some items and walked by the gun counter and the shield is the only one that has 10lb trigger on the tag haha.

Hi Kpla51
I have never seen any PX or Nex selling any firearms or ammo. I wish they would. I did buy a handgun from the AFEX about. That was 50 years ago. What px did you use as I am able to purchase at the PX?

Regards

Bob

Almost all the large bases now have a fire arms shop in them they just recently started id say 2 years ago and I'm at Fort Campbell. They don't always have a huge selection but you can order almost anything and usually have 10% off all guns. Plus as you know no tax. I ended up getting the shield for 335 otd which i is dealer cost at the gun shop my wife works at.
Regards.

Search is your friend. Happened to me and with some slight polishing of a few parts and a $7 stock M&P trigger spring I think I got it down to the stock 6.5-7lb trigger. Way better and smoother.

So my wife found an apex kit at the shop and i installed it today and it actually feels lighter that 5.5lbs. I don't have a gauge to tell though just off of my experience.

Was it the apex kit specifically for the Shield? The dcaek or whatever it was called? It's probably just because your reference was 10.5 lb. The apex kit in mine originally made me think it was under 5.5 lb so I bought a gauge and it's exactly 5.5. It made me realize most of the guns I thought were 5.5 were actually heavier.

My Base Exchange sells guns and ammo but, unfortunately the prices (even without sales tax) are just not competitive with my local LGS or the internet.

When our BX first started selling firearms their prices were lower than our local gun shops, then they started going up. Now it's cheaper to buy one off base even with the sales tax. The last time I bought on base the back ground check took 1 1/2 hours even though I have a concealed pistol license. The guy behind the counter said it was because a had a secret clearance. Funny thing is, it never takes that long at the local gun shops off base.

My wife's shops prices are about the same some of the px guns are exactly retail! But our px every so often has 10 percent off all guns and on top of that the shield is usually marked down. But it took my px about 30 mins for the process and off post it takes about 2 mins since I'm a concealed carry holder. Even when soldiers go to the shop off post its a whole lot quicker than the px.

Now after dry firing it a bunch it feels about 5.5. I compared it to my wife's stock shield and others at the shop and its just a smidge lighter but a whole lot smoother and more crisp.
