On the longer of the two mags that come with the gun, is the spacer sleeve/grip enhancer removable? Just curiosity while waiting on mine and trying to decide what kind/size of extra mags to order.

Yes, it is removable

cool, THX, guess I'll order one extra of each style

I ordered 2 of the longer sleeved ones. Figured I'd carry the shorter one in the weapon.

There's a U-Tube review on the Shield and the guy gives his 2 cents about the longer mags and sleeves.

The 8 rounder is nice but the sleeve does tend to move around some on mine. Could cause the mag to not seat at the worst possible moment. I plan to carry the 7 rounder and order another 7 rounder as a backup. Will use the 8 rounder at the range...

Either a very light dab of silicon glue, or a light spray of hair spray will keep the mag sleeve from sliding up. The Glock and XD sleves can ride up too.

My spare mags are both 7 round mags, but not because of the grip sleeve... For me, the 7 round mags work better for front pocket carry.

They should have put a couple of small bumps in the plastic and a couple of dimples in the mag wall to hold it in place.

Tried last night to drill and tap back and front of the collar. Ran set screw to hold the collar down no luck, plastic gives to much. Might work if I dimpled the mag or maybe drilled small hole. I figured at least this way the mag could be taken down for cleaning. Its early yet, maybe they will come up with another option.

I still don't have my Shield yet, but I do have a 7rd mag from GrabaGun. It seems to work perfectly in the same DeSantis pocket mag holder I use for 1911 mags.

Since the Shield 7rd mag sits deeper in the pouch than the 7rd 1911 Officer size mag, I plan on removing the sleeve on the 8 rounder and using it as a back-up. The sleeve is nice but not enough to risk the mag from seating correctly. It's also less bulk in the pocket.

For the shield, just leaving the sleeve off could work out okay.
The mag sleeves for the Glocks serves more than simply being a filler for your hand. For them, the sleeve also serves to keep the user from slamming the larger capacity too far into the mag well when the slide is back.
I just tried inserting the 8 round mag with the sleeve off and the slide back. Even with the mag release fully depressed, I was not able to get the mag to seat too deeply. :)
