Shield Guys?

I own both the 9 & the 40 shield & love them however in all honesty I would stick with a 9mm shield for EDC. You get one extra round, slightly less recoil and 9mm ammo is cheaper & always in stock. For EDC & self defense you cant go wrong with either caliber. Both will get the job done.

I've got the 9mm Shield but a buddy has the .40 version and both are 100% reliable. In my part of Texas, it was easier to find .40 than 9mm in the last ammo crunch.

I too own both and have had no problems with either. The 40 is a handful, but manageable.

Another dual owner, honestly the only difference I have been able to tell is that the .40 feels like it wants to twist in my hand a little bit.

Honestly IMO there is little difference in recoil between the 9mm & .40. I think its comes down to shooting experience, but to me a 180gr .40s&w doesnt feel much different than 9mm. The lighter bullets are faster & hence the more felt recoil.

If you want to feel something nice & warm then try a 135 gr. defense load in .40 s&w such as federal hydra shok, which is what i carry in my Shield 40.
I have absolutely no problems carrying either the shield 9 or 40, both will get the job done.

After being a Model 29 shooter for too many years I finally got a 9 mm shield and loved it. Break in was 250 rounds of Remington UMC without one problem. Clean up was a snap with a brass bore brush and Hoppes. Only problem was finding the cases on a grass range, the shield sends them everywhere. I also have large hands but the 8 rd mag makes the grip ideal for me.

I came up on the .45acp 1911 but the high cost of ammunition has me shooting the 9mm. My son has a Glock G27 .40 and he bought a G26 9mm for his wife. I think he shoots the G26 more than the G27.

Since I am familiar with and enjoy the .45acp, I just never warmed up to the .40. I have several 9mm Glocks and one in .45acp. I've had a yen to try out a Shield in 9mm though.

The 9mm Shield is butter.

Love shooting it. Even my 13 and 16 year old daughters shoot it well.

The only blip I had was shooting 147gr Rangers. Otherwise, it's 100%.

I already had other (Glock) .40 caliber guns and got to try both the 9mm and .40 before buying. Recoil on the .40 isn't so bad, but either caliber should be good for the Shield's intended purpose.

Every time this topic comes up someone says "there have been a few kabooms with the .40" or a variant. There have also been some kabooms with the 9mm, search Youtube. There are 1911 kabooms, and lots of other scenarios.

For what it's worth, note that the name is 40 Smith & Wesson. Of all the gun makers, I would expect S&W to have a handle on designing guns to run the caliber.

My .40 Shield is excellent. If you don't mind a little recoil, the .40 is a good choice.
