Shield Mag problems

I just got a .40 shield i have the 6 and 7 round mag and the last round is so hard to get it feel like thumb is going to fall off is this normal ?

Also is 7 round the largest mag you can get or will the larger M&P mags work im not talking for CC like at range want to fire longer with out reloading

It seems pretty much normal through the M&P range. It will loosen up. Mine took around 1500 rounds going through it.

in response to your second question, no. the mags you have are the max capacity that exist right now for the shield.

Funny - when Iw as at the range last week I couldn't believe the trouble I was having loading the mags for the new 9C - my thumb was dead afterwards! Last night I was reminding myself to take the uplula with me when I go shooting leater! Great item!

I had the same problem with my 9mm eight round magazine. Even with my Upula loader the last round had to be forced. I called Customer Service and they sent me a new mag. This one I can even load by hand. Made all the difference in the world.

I think - based on my relatively limited experience with half a dozen different models - that double stack magazines can sometimes get loaded in a way that make the last round impossible or at least exceptionally difficult to load. Not sure if it is a spring thing - or an alignment of all the rounds thing - or in at least once case I read about the "leg" on the follower need to be sanded down a couple mm - but some of my double stack mags just don't seem to want to take the 14th round that it says it holds - the Uplula mag loader definitely helps - but even with that sometimes that last round just doesn't want to go it.

Load them all the way and leave them in a drawer for a few weeks - it will help.

Mine's a 9mm, so my mags are 7 & 8 rounds. The 8 rounder, having the extension, is easy to load, but the 7 rounders are a bear.
(Load each to the max and push down on the top round. There's quite a difference in 'extra room')
This is also why so many people have trouble getting a full mag to seat easily with the slide closed. If there was a bit more 'wiggle room' after the last round were loaded, it would seat much easier.

I believe if S&W made the Follower legs just a bit shorter, the 7 rounders (6 rounders for .40) would be a lot easier.

I shaved only about 1/16th" off the legs and they load (and seat) a LOT easier.

Sorry, but it's worked for me numerous times. My theory is that it's not the spring that's breaking in. Repeated loading and unloading of new magazines and storing them loaded has loosened them up for me.

Disassemble the mag, coat the internals with frog lube, per their instructions, wipe everything dry, and re-assemble. Since I switched to Froglube, I've done this with several new handgun purchases, and all of the mags that were tough to load brand new have benefited from the froglube treatment.
