Concealed Carry Forum - M&P Shield - out of battery failure

[br]I received the gun back today. Good news... I have been unable to replicate the problem. I have tried repeatedly (with loaded magazines) to get the weapon to fail to return to battery. It snaps back into place every time.

my only concern is that the smaller 7 round magazine is still difficult to get seated/locked into the mag well. The larger 8 round mazine slips right in and locks. But the small one takes some effort. I dont plan to use the small one, so im not really concerned about it. I will do some shooting this weekend and see how it behaves then..

here is the letter S&W included with my repair:

Thanks.

Does the slide snap back if you pull back say 1/4 inch and gently release ? (Similar to what would occur if you holstered.

Here you got 2 magazines one larger than the other but both springs are the same size. I cut one coil from the bottom of the shorter mag. IMO the lenght of the spring should be relative to the size of the housing.

WORKED FOR ME!!

Did cutting the spring down lake it so your slide went into battery?

It's good that Smith took care of this for you. I've seen this problem with new autos, Smiths and others, and it usually goes away after about 100 rounds go through the gun. I would stay away from cutting the mag spring as that will cause reliability problems down the road.

Thanks the battery problem is not a big deal. I plan to leave a good gun well alone. The only modification I had done was big dot night sights installed.
