Have carried concealed since 1974 and have had dozens of situations where I pulled my weapon where I was in control. I live in a gated community and my home is surrounded by an 8' block wall and an 80 lb. Lab. Back of my home is mostly glass. I'm sitting 2 days ago at my kitchen island chatting with my wife who is making me a grilled cheese. Dog goes nuts and I turn to look into backyard and a guy enters my kitchen with my dog chasing him. He is 10' away. I can not begin to to tell you how fast this happened. From tranquility to shock and pandemonium in maybe 2 seconds. Remember, the dog is making a hell of a racket. Bad news for the intruder. My wallet, car keys, cell, and Shield were sitting on the counter within reach. It felt like it was super glued to the holster. I pull it and it looked like I shot him with a 12 as he bailed out the door and dove over a 8' wall into my neighbors yard. The guy stunned, stumbles out my neighbors gate right into me and Mr. Smith. End of story. 15 year old son of neighbor doctor writing scripts for himself was confronted by his mother and he pulled a gun owned by the dad. She threatened to call PD and he cracks 1 off and beats feet which put him drugged and armed in my kitchen. Yes, I got luckier than Clint Eastwood last night!

Wow. That sounds very intense. I'm glad to hear you and your wife are ok. It sounds like you are still pretty shaken up. Just to clarify, the intruder was your neighbors 15 year old son? Was he hit? How many shots did you fire?

So out of control at 15 what a shame. You reacted well. I'm glad it worked out well for you. The dr and his wife are probibly going out of their minds wondering what went wrong.

Prime example of it don't always happen at the 7-11 or the mall.

Glad you had your sidearm at hand and not in the desk drawer.

If I have pants on, I have a gun in the holster on my belt. If I don't, there is a gun within arms length even at home.

Yes, my neighbors spoiled rotten spurn of his loins. No shots fired in my encounter. I never saw a gun until I took him down. 1 shot fired threatening his mom before he ran. A violation of "Kelly's Law" here in Arizona and serious. By no means is this a Dirty Harry macho report. I did wet myself and shook for hours. A couple scotch's helped.

Outside of having it not happen in the first place, it sounds like it turned out the best it possibly could. Great to hear that you, wife, and dog are unscathed.

Well done!

It might not be over since his drug addiction doesn't end after his arrest. Don't know what else to say other than "Shield's up Scotty" not "Shield's off".

Glad to hear you are alright and glad that you had the Smith ready. Nice job and thanks for sharing

Congratulations on a successful armed encounter, now you know why I love dogs .. they're a great early-warning system.

There are two things I won't be without - my pistols & my dog. I have a Black Lab & she barks at about everything while in the house, usually people walking by & I don't discourage her. I live on the corner in a fairly quiet neighborhood but it borders on some that aren't. I have the advantage that I have an LEO son who patrols this area from midnight to 8 AM.

Not saying it didn't happen, but there no news report with a shooting similar to the OP's account in Arizona. Just sayin.

Gated community's have a way of keeping these reports out of the news.

Everyone came out alive which is a good thing.

Just my opinion. I would never put to words if I presented or discharged a firearm as a means of self defense even if clearly justified.

If anyone on this forum is ever legally challenged to justify the use of deadly force I can promise you every comment you have posted on the internet will be scrutinized by a prosecuting attorney "...and used against you in the court of law."
