Hey Fellas,

Just got a chance to shoot my 9mm Shield Performance Center and the front fiber optic sight fell out of the housing. I am new to this type of gun and i cant find a definitive answer anywhere on how to fix this. I read a post from a 1-2 years ago to contact smith and wesson, and i've also read to take a lighter to it (not sure if thats a good idea). Any suggestions? i would greatly appreciate it!

I would say if this was purchased new I would first ask my lgs i bought it from for an assist in putting it back together if possible. If not then contact SW. Even if used SW may help.
But take a lighter to it? I dont see that being a good idea but thats just my .02

I have seen several posting online as well in reviews in which insert on the front fiber optic site does sometimes fall out. It didn't happen to mine but then again I only fired it once and went to S&W for repair for another reason was there for the last five weeks. But as I type its out for delivery and will be home today.

This being said I would call S&W and advise them of it happening. They will make it right whether they send you extra inserts or a whole new site. There customer service has been exceptional for me.

Are S&W Performance Center pistols worth the upcharge? They seem to have as many issues as non PC guns.

A good shortcut -- and savings of time and money -- is to figure out the brand of the fiber optic sight, check that company's web site, and order some replacement "fiber optic" plastic tubes.

A quick look at the S&W web site indicates these may be made by Hi-Viz, as Hi-Viz fiber optic sights are described on the S&W web page as being on one of the PC Shields.

The fiber optic (okay, colored plastic) tubes are cheap and can be replaced pretty easily.

I had a fiber optic front sight on my STI competition pistol and replaced the rod a couple of times. Carried extras in my range bag in case of a failure during a match. Simple fix as others have said. Use a lighter to melt both ends of the rod. Easy does it. You just want enough melt to hold the rod in place.

hi-viz

just purchased a m&p 45 shield pc with the hi-viz sites. second time I took the pistol to the range, the front insert poped out and I couldn't find it. hi-viz did replace the insert no questions asked and sent a spare. installed the insert by just pushing it into housing with my finger. have taken it to the range once since reinstalling the insert, and so far so good. hi-viz has a install tool they sell on their website. thinking about getting several extra inserts, but they charge 99 cents each.

I just bought a PC shield and on the 2nd magazine I lost my front sight. Could not find it in the grass/sand.

Honestly its pretty pathetic quality. I shouldnt have to melt the ends with a lighter. And it shouldn't fail so quickly. Maybe I'm spoiled with my sigs and HKs but this Really annoyed me with my first S&W purchase. Yay American build quality, is how I felt.

A lighter is EXACTLY how you install a fiber optic rod. How do you think it is supposed to work?

Do some research before you make uninformed statements and provide false information.

On monday I just picked up a shield 9 perfomance center i ordered last week took it out to the range today. And ran 75 rounds through it. The rear left rod popped out and I couldnt find it. Almost $500 for a firearm parts shouldn't be falling off with 75 rounds of 115gr.

The Lgs said I should have spare rods in the box. I came home no spare parts in the box. Ironically my sd9ve came more stuff in the box then the shield.
