Shield performance PLUS compact striker safety

So my 3 month old performance center plus ported barrel works fine.
When cleaning I always check the firing pin safety for proper operation.
Purchased a Plus optic ready non ported slide. Used a new non ported barrel. Seems to shoot fine.
However when I check the firing pin safety, it is not normal.
On the table when pushing the striker it goes toward WITHOUT pushing the release. to get it to function properly I have to push the striker towards the rear for it to lock.
So I put the slide on racked a few times, removed the slide and the striker was in safety mode.


Anyone else see this?


Don't know if this is normal or not, strange it works after having the slide on. but checking the slide alone does not work like the original ported slide.

Certainly don't want to carry loaded if the safety is not correct.

Mine does it too… with a clear/empty pistol.
Rack the slide, pull the trigger, hold the trigger down, pull the slide back and lock it.
You can press the firing pin forward. You have to move the striker to the rear a few mm, and the safety plunger locks it.

However, when the gun is fired, the sear re-engages the striker, holding the firing pin “cocked”.
Releasing the trigger, re-engages the safety plunger, rinse, repeat.

However, if you do call S&W, I’m curious as to what they say.
I first found this when I put an Overwatch kit in mine, I didn’t check it prior. It only had less than 200 rounds when I swapped out stock trigger/springs. I’m at roughly 1000 rounds through mine (Bought March 1 this year) and no issues of any kind.

I took mine apart and inspected for burrs or any kind if issues with the plastic striker sleeve, looked for any machine flashing in the striker channel.. ran a brush and Hoppes through it…
