Shield performance?

I own both a 9MM and .40 Shield and enjoy them both. They shoot well and they're very easy to maintain.

I am not pleased with the accuracy I'm getting from my Shield 40. I had an Apex kit installed and have a great trigger, but I don't have the accuracy to trust it to carry. On the other hand, my Dan Wesson Valor commander and M&P full size 40 are very accurate. I can't complain in the reliability department, maybe I need more gunpowder blown out the muzzle... I have less than 200 rounds through it at this time. Any suggestions?
The Dan Wesson and the Shield are two different animals. With Subcompacts, new owners many times need to start from scratch, as if they were completely new to shooting.

If your shots are all over the paper, it's probably not the gun... It's most likely the shooter.
Reassess your stance, grip, trigger pull and follow-through, with someone (preferably an RO, or Instructor) evaluating these points.
Start with the target at 3yds/9ft and evaluate your placement & grouping.
STAY at that distance until you are satisfied with grouping & placement, THEN move out to 5yds/15ft and stay THERE until you're satisfied, then repeat at 7yds/21ft, then further.

Depending on how long it's been since you've taken a formal shooting class, if the regimen above doesn't help, it may be time to take a refresher class to (possibly) eliminate some bad habits you might have picked up over the years.

You asked for suggestions... These are mine. :) [shrug]

I absolutely love my Shield, especially have I had just put some Williams Fire Sights on it last week. Even more amazing. I absolutely love this gun to death and trust it with my life. I have not had a single malfunction since day one and I have over a 1000 rnds in it since I bought it in December. Really happy with my EDC piece.

How satisfied are you with those sights? I've been seriously considering these...

I've got about half a year and 500 rounds on my 9. I have other guns I don't carry anymore since I got the shield (honestly I should sell my XDS's).

The shield carries better, it points better, it shoots better (especially after XDS recall and the heavy trigger they put in), the XDS is prettier and probably better made but I still go to the Shield... Every day.

Thanks Robzguns; I should have added that I can shoot my wife's .380 Bodyguard and our Sig P238 with far greater accuracy than my Shield. The front sight is drifted to the left from the factory and POI is left about 2 inches at 7 yds; so if I drifted the rear sight to the right, then I'd have the sights moved to opposite corners and not parallel to the bore...unless the barrel is not properly aligned.

The only bad thing I have to say about my Shield is that it makes me feel terrible every day by my not carrying my long-trusted and previously carried SW1911PD lighweight commander clone. I find the Shield a natural in the hand, totally reliable, and accurate beyond reason. It is SO much easier to carry IWB than my lightweight 1911 is. The only change I have made to mine is to add a set of TFOs.

BTW, I find the handling characteristics of the Shield superior only with the extended magazine inserted. For me, it is an 'also ran' with the shorther magazine.

I've had mine for 3 months. It has TFO sights and the Apex kit installed. It has just over 500 rounds through it without one malfunction. I'm very accurate with it. I think it's a great gun.
It replaced my Kahr CM9 as my EDC. I pocket carry it every day.

I love my 9mm Shield.
In fact, it has replaced my Glock 36 as my primary carry gun.
It's reliable, easy to shoot, accurate and very concealable.
It's a fantastic little handgun.

Love my 9. Almost six months and somewhere in the ballpark of 900-1000 rounds, nary an issue after three FTEs during the first 250.

I find myself pulling left a tad now and then, if I haven't shot it for a bit, but that's easy to do with such a thin gun. It's also why you should shoot 50-100 rounds through your EDC every month.

Added some TruGlo sites and a Foxx Trapp kydex holster and carry when I'm not at work.

Love my 9mm Shield also. Bought it when they first came out and it has never failed.

I added some sight paint to the 3 dot white sights I think it is improving the shooting performance. Photos are not great but shows the bright orange front and high vis. green rear.

I too am not please with the accuracy, but know it's me and not the gun. I am having trouble with the trigger and guess need to practice dry fire because I'm low and to the left. Thank you for the recommended practice routine. I intend to try it to get my groupings back to where they should be (and are with my other handguns).

I have had my Shield 40 long enough to put 500 rounds through it and it is getting better all the time...I carry it almost every day and don't see me making changes anytime soon

I have only had my 9mm shield for a few weeks, havnt started carrying it yet, waiting on my slim xc from ttgunleather for it.
I have put a few hundred rounds thru it, my 13 year old daughter and I put 100 thru it yesterday.
I am impressed with its accuracy, I had those clay perches set up at 15, 20 and 25 yards. I could bust the clays at 15 and 20 yards on the first shot everytime. the 25 yard ones took a few tries. I will have to practice more on that.
that's the fun part

I have the 9mm, like it to carry and practice with it often. I have ultra large hands so it is a bit difficult to get used to it. I do well shooting my full sized M&P 40, HK USP.40 and Glock 17 but it is a bit more difficult with this one due to its size. I am sure I can hit any perpetrator in self defense 18ft and closer no problem but would like a bit more assurance with a bit more distance. I guess I have to practice more :-)

Awesome little gun. Had mine for quite a while. The excitement has not faded. I was a diehard Beretta fan before this gun. Now I want a M&P9 fullsize.

I got the NDZ Performance billet aluminum pinky extensions for mine.

Last time I went shooting with the Shield. This is at 50 feet, while not a competition score for the target I think it shoots good groups for a small pistol.

M&P Shield

Took the wife's new Shield9 to the range on Sat. She was at work. Put 45 rounds thru it, 140 thru my FS 40 and my son put 150 thru his g17. Only 1 issue with the shield, the 7 round mag fails to engage when loaded. No ftf or fte problems only accepting the magazine. Had the gun cleaning class tonight, showing her how to field strip it and cleaning - lubricating her gun. The 7 round magazine will still not engage when the slide is forward. The extended magazine engages at both slide positions when loaded. The gun shot great though.
