Shield Plus Last Round Hold Open

Hello fellow smith-o-maniacs. I have a shield plus that has issues with last round hold open. When I first bought it, I shot it and it had no problems. I let it sit for a few months (magazines empty) before shooting it again, and I had issues with the slide stop engaging the slide. When it did hold open, barely any of the slide stop was touching the slide. I exchanged my 2 original magazines for new magazines at the place I bought it from, and the issue stopped. The slide stop worked as it should with the new magazines. I let it sit for a month without shooting it and I am now getting the same issues as before. Is anyone else having this issue? On every other m&p I have, the slide stop with shoot up all the way when the rack the slide back but not with the shield plus.

Does the slide lock open the way it should work with a empty magazine?

It will work if I rack the slide and manipulate the stop with my thumb but not if I just rack it back, as it normally should.

I'm having similar issues with mine. The strange thing is my S+ 4" doesn't do it, only the standard size S+ fails to lock back. I've got five factory mags and they all do it on the shorter slide but don't on the 4" slide. ?????????????

Have you cleaned the mags? Have you cleaned and checked the slide lock area? Remove the slide, insert an empty mag, and see if the follower raises the slide stop lever. Crud in a mag may prevent the follower from lifting that lever. Crud in the lever area may prevent the follower from raising that lever.

The black tab on the follower is what lifts that lever. Check the tab on the lever to see if it's damaged. With the empty mag inserted does it raise the lever?

Looking at what I just wrote, it occurs most folks will say "yeah, common sense", but sometimes it takes an obvious suggestion to find the problem. The reality of it all is the only things that can cause this issue is the mag springs/follower or the lever. You might also check the tab on the back of the lever that actually locks the slide back as well as the notch in the slide. Good luck.

You should also check to make sure the slide lock lever is not dragging on the frame. The portion that straddles the frame (where you place your thumb) may be "pinched" thereby allowing it to drag on the frame. The slide lock is thin, stamped metal and may have been slightly bent during installation.

It could be your thumb resting on the slide release. Have someone watch you while shooting and see if your thumb makes contact with it.

Going off of memory here, but I believe there is a small spring on the front block that pushes the slide lock down.

Can't remember if I had this problem with a S&W or something else, but the spring can get jammed between the lever and the frame/front block and bind things up, where in my case it was because I didn't put it together right
