I recently purchased a shield plus, put 100 rounds through and as normal routine, wanted to clean it ASAP. i could not get the slide to remove. tried the sear pin per instructions, tried pulling the trigger still nothing. i decided to return to S&W. went to my FFL ,they as well could not get slide to remove. First of all, has anyone had this problem? could it be a recoil spring that was improperly installed at the factory? Or is it just the worthless sear pin? Now that S&W has had gun for 2 weeks I checked progress. The representative informed me that it would be at least 6 weeks until I seem my gun again and someone should have told me that. Said summer vacations slow down the repair process. Well if summer vacations slow down the repair process then how would S&W feel if no one purchased guns during the summer knowing that their quality control is failing.

This happened to me with my Shield Plus, but after about 1,500 rounds. I sent the pistol back to Smith and four weeks later it came back with the issue resolved, apparently with no parts replaced and no description of what they had done. I've since put an additional 3k rounds through it with no issues.

I don't think my problem had anything to do with a misaligned recoil spring assembly.

Slide lock spring

Just saw a post from 2017 about a slide lock spring that can come loose or even come completely out. Surprised to hear you got no explanation from s&w for your issue.

I believe I've seen that post as well regarding earlier versions of the Shield. My guess is that the slide lock spring was indeed the likely culprit on my pistol.
