I've done a lot of research and have not found anyone else complaining of this problem. The only other pistol I experienced this problem with was an H&K 9mm.
I've called it 'trigger slap' but it's actually more of a 'sting'. My Shield 1.0 does not do this but then, it's a different trigger.
I know I could use a glove or put a band aid on my finger but I'm hoping someone here can enlighten me as to the underlying cause. Perhaps I'll be able to remedy it.
Ammo I'm using is 147gr lead flat point with a stout charge under it. Stout, not max.

I own 3 Plus's and have trigger slap w/none of them.
Have you tried less powerful ammo for comparison?

I have some warm loads that cause trigger slap when i shoot them in my 2.0 Compact(4"). Put those same loads in my Walther PPS mod2(very similar to a 1st gen Shield) and I have no slap and I shoot better. I've tried to figure it out and I haven't. This is a 124 gr fmj load.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I took Tomac's suggestion and ran some generic 115 gr ball through it. No slap.
Would be interesting to understand what's going on when greater recoil causes the stinging sensation on my trigger finger.

I think you've already answered your own question.
More recoil = more energy rearward, causing more of an impact with the parts of your hand.
IIRC I seem to remember "trigger slap" as the trigger going back into position in a more-rapid than normal manner, as though it's "slapping" the trigger finger out of the way. It's also something I haven't heard used in many years. Is that what you are describing?

When I fire the pistol with 147 gr 'stout' loads, something causes a strong stinging sensation in my trigger finger. I've heard that referred to as 'trigger slap' and so that's the term I used. It's a very unpleasant experience.
