Shield prices going up?

You know what? Ive slept since then:D

Your right, that why I got them at Whittakers;)

There was a free mag deal that was good, too.

Little while ago think it was back in April I saw this deal, never seen one better- if it ever comes back I'm buying.

Brownells had a Shield 9 for $274.99 on Sale - $25 promo + $10 processing fee and free 2 day shipping- final price $259.99!

So after rebate- $184.99.
That deal you described was up for minutes- I know because I had one removed from cart as I was trying to buy. The deal with 2 extra 8 round mags for $40 more was up for like a week, equal in my mind because I would have to buy the mags for that anyway. By then I was looking for the no safety version...

Been carrying J frame revolvers for years, and Glocks before that. But got a bee in my bonnet about the SIG 938 last week (no idea why, except that I'm getting old - it happens) and went to a local range to check one out on Monday. Very nice little piece, and surprisingly comfortable to shoot for being so tiny, but as long as I was there I tried some other micro 9mms from the rental board. Glock 43, Walther PPS, and M&P Shield 9mm. Got lots of Glock experience (took along my G26 to use as a small-gun comfort comparison) so the G43 was OK, the PPS was really nice, and the Shield was almost as nice as the Walther. All were comfortable to shoot, and about equally accurate with the 115g range ammo I had to use.

Lots of online research over the next 2 days led to the realization that the 938 would be the only single action/cocked and locked/must move the safety to shoot it gun in my carry experience, which I didn't want to have to train to imprint the muscle memory. Besides, the PPS and Shield were just as pleasant to shoot, held more ammo and were cheaper. The lifetime warranty from S&W put the Shield ahead of the PPS (1 year), and the $75 rebate nailed it.

So Thursday night I found a Shield with no safety, night sights and 3 mags (#10086) for $394, delivered to my LGS. I thought that was a terrific price - I think this particular package would be a good value even without the rebate, but of course I'll take what's on the table. Vendor was JMAX Sports in Plano, TX, who advertised it on GunsAmerica. It was the best price I could find on this particular model, which had all the goodies I wanted. (For example, Bud's wanted more even for LE qualified buyers, and LOTS more for us mere mortals. Not knocking Bud's - I've happily bought lots of guns from them over the years - but this time somebody else just wanted the business more.)

On the way home from picking up my CHP (NC lingo for CCW permit),

"I can't compete with those crazy online prices and stay in business. The best I can hope to do is make a few bucks on a gun today. So, I tell my customers they can buy from me or have the gun sent to me for the FFL transfer. At the end of the day, the gross profit is the same except that doing transfers, I don't need to lay out any cash for the inventory."

I guess if I had a choice between buying guns, sitting on them for a while, having lookers paw all over them and make $25 or $30 gross profit, I'd be in the FFL business too.

My LGS owner said the same. He said buy them from me ...no fees or buy wherever you want online, pay the shipping and I get a $20 transfer fee...no long term inventory cost, no hassles and when you're in the store I have other stuff you usually pick up. He's always busy, always pleasant and willing to help. I buy a LOT of stuff from or through him.

We're both in NC. It sounds like our respective LGS owners could be brothers. Think this mentality is a Carolina thing? I'm going back to my guy to buy a couple holsters later this week.

Interesting. I did a lot of looking at comparison articles, and was sure I saw the Walther described as having a much shorter warranty than the Shield.

And now that I look, I see that Walther has a $100 rebate on a PPS with night sights (and no safety on any PPS model), which would put it at $295 before any extra magazines. Wowsers. Price competition like that should work to keep Shield prices from rising too much.

Oh well, I'm still looking forward to the Shield. :D

Not a surprise, I bet prices will go up where they were after the rebate period ends.

With ya on that .I kinda sorta got the feeling with other threads aboard that some (not all members) where in a panic mode about falling prices. For me I am not because I never so far have ever bought a firearm for an investment. Mine are all carries. Its just my luck though me being broke gunwise right now lol. When I go to buy my next one prices will be up there lol.

You're just an enabler.

For a year I've been fighting the persistent urge (mostly unsuccessfully) to expand my 32 caliber revolver stable, to the point where my 38 Special J frames are giving me the stink eye for ignoring them. Now on a whim I pick up a Shield, "just to see what it's like," and look what happens. I'm worried that my 32s will gang up with the 38s and attack me some night, probably when I'm back to reloading 9mm. And you want me to add to the risk by getting another pocket 9?

If it weren't such a politically fraught word these days I'd be praying for more RESISTANCE. ;)

I resisted too, even added to Grab A Guns cart. Removed it to let the Gun Acquisition Syndrome dissipate. I didn't need any more. Then Grab A Gun sent me an email, they must keep track, they offered free shipping. Done!

Funny what saving $8 will do. So at $339, free ship, free transfer, no tax I'm at $264 out the door once the rebate comes.

Just went to grabagun, logged in, added a shield 45 to my cart and closed the window.

You know, just to see what would happen.

I bought one in February, then bought another on April 1st. Couldn't resist the deal.
