Shield Rusting

Rust

I have a older sheid and a performace center the older one was my daily carry I would oil and clean it every couple of weeks the mag relase botton rusted so bad that it would not relase in a hit part of the summer and I have had rust problems with both slides , slide release levers and sights I am not at all impressed with the coating on them and think I will end up getting them creakoted I wear one of them 12 hours a day + year round and work outside no function issues except the mag relase but they look like **** my personal opinion is that they would last about 5 hours of saltwater spray before the finish is junk

I think this forum would be better for some programming change that would alert you that you are responding to a VERY OLD THREAD. I mean, something other than the date of the last entry, right above yours.

The title you chose for this thread is misleading. You don't have a Shield with rust. In fact you admit you don't own a Shield.

It wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't for search engines like Google. If a person typed "Shield rust" there would be a match and unless that person searched further they may think there is a problem with the Shield rusting.

We all need to be careful choosing our words when posting on the internet.

I own a Shield and not only is the slide stainless but the finish on my Shield is more durable than my ex-Nano after 1, 000 rounds and soon to be 1 year anniversary pocket concealing 10 hours per work day. The only sign of wear is a hair line wear mark on the barrel hood where two angels converge.

Easy on the coffee, Jack! This ain't my first CCW, but it's the first one that rusted. That worries me. When I field strip the gun, I don't get to open the entire mechanism. What other rust issues are occurring that I can't see?

I used to treat this gun no differently than the other guns I shoot. I now consider this gun as needing more TLC than the other ones. I'm OK with that, because I like the gun. But when I choose to replace it in the future, this issue will likely impact my decision.

I did heed the info in the post above about the N82 holster - I've ordered one for this gun. I'm thinking it'll go a long ways towards avoiding this rust issue. The N82 seems similar in concept to the Alien that I currently use - the difference is that the Alien allows the handle, and the mag release button, to contact my skin, and the N82 provides complete coverage so there is no skin contact with the gun.

Not only does it not allow skin contact. But there's also a "barrier" that blocks the moisture from reaching the leather for this very reason.
