I had a S&W Shield 1.0 several years back. One issue that I had is that when you reassembled it after take down or cleaning, it would lock up the slide if you didn’t have the guide rod positioned just right. The only way to free it up was to whack it with a rubber mallet.

In the near future, I will be purchasing a new primary carry pistol. Thinking Hlock 48 or S&W Shield Plus. Is the Shield Plus prone to locking up like that? Please advise. Thanks in advance!

I've never had this issue with my M&P40 Shield 1.0 Performance Center.

Never had that problem on my Shield Plus CC. There is a fiddly little lever kinda below the breech face you push down so you don't have to dry fire it, not quite sure it's an improvement over pulling the trigger.

Tried that once and didn't see the point of it but yes that yellow lever is there.

I bought a Shield Plus back when they were first Introduced, It's a great EDC, perfect size small enough to carry In my waistband (Inside The Pants Vedder Holster) but big enough to accurately shoot! I also carry a Glock 43X. I'm not a fan of Sig Sauer Polymer handguns the P365 being one! I have put hundreds of rounds through the Shield Plus with no Issues!

I have a Shield 1.0. Don't have a Plus so I can't say.

However, you're right about the 1.0. If the RSA is even slightly out of position the slide won't retract far enough to lock the slide catch. I've determined you can tell if it's out of place simply enough.

When putting the slide back on, if it only goes back to the front of the rear rail before you start compressing the spring, it's not in proper position. No need to whack it. Take the slide off and make sure it's centered and seated. You know you've got it when the slide goes back to the end of the rear rail before you start compressing the recoil spring. Then you can retract the slide far enough to engage the slide lock.

Hey hey! I got my Shield Plus Dec ‘23 and it has exceeded my expectations! Wonderful firearm! Only one issue since purchase and that was a “dead” front night sight. I called S&W cust service and they sent out a working replacement free of charge. Highly recommend Shield Plus!
