The gun has been out for months and S&W still can't keep up with demand. No wonder this country doesn't make anything anymore.
Shield shortage is getting ridiculous.

The demand is ridiculously high. I knew it would be the moment I picked it up at Cabelas and shot it an hour after purchasing on launch day 4/13/12. I knew that I had a winner and saw this gun was going to be just as popular and SCARCE as PMR30 eventually. I understand that S&W has been making them 24/7 trying to keep up .. just impossible to do so.
I still haven't seen one! Nobody in Wisconsin ever seems to have one, and if they do get a couple in they are gone in a matter of minutes.
Oh well. I just bought a like-new 4513TSW for $499. That should help me wait for a Shield to come up....

Pretty brash of you to denounce your country over a hand gun! I'm sure you would rather have s&w make a quality pistol and take their time over a mass produced *** imported from China. I'll take the wait anytime of day.
Have you put a deposit down on a shield? I put three seperate deposits at local LGS' and had one in 2.5 months.

I read on this forum that S&W is producing 800 Shields a day. I don't have one yet either but I don't expect S&W to build a new factory just to meet this initial demand. Once the demand levels off, I'd expect them to scale back production accordingly.
I went to the Portland "Rose City" Ore. gun show yesterday, and saw several of them being displayed by a few dealers. I was at one table and saw a 40 being sold and when I came back 20 minutes later I saw the 9 was gone. Not sure why the left coast has them although I must admit there have been a lot less since the first of this year. I went to the show on the second day, so really can't say what Saturday's supply was.
On a side note, saw/held a stainless 629 4" with a early 1980 production number. A closet queen recently acquired by a G Shop owner I know in Central Oregon. He will keep it with the 44's big brothers.......

There is no shortage, I literally see tem every time I go to the gunstore. Sure they sell, but new ones come in constantly and they're virtually always in stock, both 9mm and .40. I could go purchase a second one at will if I wanted to. Sounds like your LGS just sucks, go to a real gunstore and you'll find them in abundance.

I only saw a .40 and everywhere else says they haven't seen em in months. They actually laugh when I ask.
There is no shortage - they are just popular. Local Sportsman's Warehouse gets some about every week. Prices have gone from $399 to $419. They wont keep a list but on the sly, ask a salesman when the next truck will arrive... all their stock come from one warehouse and it takes from a few hours to a day to get things stocked.

I surely don't know how they are allocating them but you don't see hardly any here! Some yahoo had one on a local add source here in a 9mm and he wanted $550 for it thats rediculous! I waited for mine and it was 100.00 less than that with the tax. I am betting there are a handful of wholesalers that are sucking them up and they are goimg to their most popular dealers! When I worked at a LGS 2 years ago we had 3 wholesalers that were continuosly out of M&P's and XDM's. We were a Glock stocking dealer so we always had a boat load of them!
Hope they get this straighened out soon I'd like to have one in .40 and yes you can find them on GunBroker but usually at a premium price.

Maybe you should move to a different country
Just spoke to my gun shop here in michigan they just got in 6 shields(9mm) all were spoken for.I am #18 on there list(I have 2 on order)I just found a 9mm shield this past weekend in WI.The price was $470 shipped so I bought it.I guess I will give one to my grandson for a X-MAS present coobie

You must be trolling. I haven't seen a single one at any gun shop within 50 miles. Bud's doesn't even have them. I ordered mine from Quantico Tactical (the self-proclaimed largest LE S&W dealer) and have been waiting for months.

Every gun shop in palm beach county has them stocked every time I visit, including the day I decided to buy one, when there was supposedly a "shortage". I always check out the M&Ps when I'm there and I've never NOT seen the Shields out of stock, not trolling, 100% serious.
Your LGS sucks, despite what they claim!
I live in rural Nebraska and have checked with four different gun shops. They usually smile or chuckle when they say they're out of stock.
I personally have not been looking very hard, nor have I checked with any Lincoln or Omaha stores. I'm simply not in that big of a hurry.

Maybe you can post the names of ALL these gunshops in palm beach county that have all of those shields for sale.That would make a lot of folks happy

Shoot Straight, Palm Beach Shooting Center and Gander Mountain (Gun World). I don't deal with Delray Shooting Center but I bet they have shields in as well, only they'd want like 700-800 bucks for one.
