Shield slide question?

I have a question about the slide on my Sheild. I took the gun to the range tonight for the second time. The total round count for the gun is 200. It shoots very well, 8 rounds in a 2 inch group at 15 feet.

Tonight I shot 100 rounds and realized that the slide never locked open when the last round was fired. It was a bit irritating but I figure there is a simple fix just not sure what that is. It may just be a matter of clean, oil, and continue firing to loosten things up.

Any thought?

On some of my firearms including the Shield I have to be more aware of where my thumbs are. I have large hands and my thumb can easily ride the slide lock and prevent the slide from locking. Underpowered ammo can sometimes do this also.

What storm40 said. On the smaller slides it's really important, at least for me, to pay attention to where my thumbs are positioned. When using a sub-compact, if I leave them where they'd normally fall on a full size M&P then they tend to hit the slide lock.

The next law suit will be from the mags falling onto the ground when the mag release is pressed :)

Enough of this humorous hijacking of TNSmith's legitimate question.

My first question would be does the slide lock back on an empty magazine when you are not firing? If it doesn't do that, it isn't your thumbs!

I for one,do NOT just drop my mags. I grab the one coming out as I insert the next one and stuff the empty in my pocket. I'm also a "round counter" so I already know when the last bullet is in the chamber. Nothing worse than having ammo and being out of mags. Combat Vet with old habbits.

Not to mention the price of mags and destroying one just doing drills.
