Shield Trigger Question

I was recently lucky enough to happen upon a .40 Shield at my LGS. Needless to say, I now own the gun and feel very lucky to have it. I've already posted a range report from my first trip, but the quick version is that I love it, and feel very confident using it as my new CC gun. I know others have been having assorted issues with this weapon but fortunately it seems that I got a good one...knock on wood.

So my question, while the gun shoots great, I've noticed a slight "drag" or "grind" in the trigger. It only seems to happen when I'm taking the slack out of the trigger. Once the striker starts to move and drop safety is being engaged it's smooth, but before that point there is a slight dragging feel. It doesn't affect my shooting, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this same thing and if anyone has found a way to mitigate it. I'm thinking it's just a matter of breaking in the gun (I've only put 150 rounds through it so far), or possibly some gun lube in the right place to get it to stop. As anyone else noticed this in your Shield? Thoughts on getting it to stop? It probably wouldn't even bother a normal person, but I'm beyond perfectionist when it comes to my guns.

Mine had a slight grittiness to it when it was brand new. It's something that 'polished' itself out after a few hundred rounds.

the Burwell Guns site has a DIY 'trigger job' (polishing) PDF that will show how to remove the drag.

Of course, many have bought the Apex trigger kit to remove the drag and lighten the pull weight.

This pretty common with all of the M&P series guns. My 9mm had it also. I went with an apex tactical trigger and new plunger. Solved the problem!

Check out the Apex website! The Apex Hard Sear/Fully Machined Sear will take care of the gritty take up on your trigger as well as lightening the pull and making it reset much quicker. Well worth the cost. There is a video on the website that instructs on the installation. Randy Lee does a great job with it. The best money I have ever spent on any of my pistols!! I have Apex sears in my FS M&P 40 and my M&P 40 Shield.

Shield Trigger

Got about 300 rounds of 40 and 9mm since the 9mm barrel arrived. Trigger seems to be improving, or maybe getting more use to the shield. I am happy with it. First time out the white dot came out of the front sight. S&W sent me a replacement. It is my EDC pistol now. No FTF nor FTE problems. I carry as 40 practice with both 9mm and 40 with no problems. Enjoy it.

The trigger on my Shield 40 has smoothed out a bit and I've only put 100 rounds through it. In fact the whole gun has smoothed out and isn't as tight(that's a good thing)

I'm not crazy about lightening the pull of my EDC weapons but that's just me. On a range target gun yes
