I had stripped my Shield down to give it an oiling. However, apparently I didn't notice when I was reassembling it that the sear deactivation lever have flipped back up. Now the recoil spring protrudes from the front about 1/2". And I can not get the pistol to disassemble. Jabbing at the lever with a long skinny screwdriver has been a source of frustration for the last 2 hours. Any suggestions? Or is my problem unrelated the the lever? Thanks.

Where are you at with it right now? I'm assuming magazine is out. Slide open or closed? Takedown lever flipped down or parallel with slide?

I'd say the lever has nothing to do with it. The recoil spring doesn't come near the sear.
Is the rear of the slide flush with the rear of the frame? The front of the slide sticks out past the dust cover by about 1/4".
See if you can push the slide a bit harder rearward, onto the frame and lock the slide open. It make take a good push, but if it goes back, you will be able to lift the takedown lever back in place and it should be good.
I think the recoil spring is just a little out of whack and it will go in place with a little more force.

This will also happen if the recoil spring is but in turned awkward. The spring sometimes needs to be turned more in either direction before putting it together. I know it sounds crazy, because it should all be the same diameter no matter what. But it's happened to several members in the past.

Thanks, gentlemen. It was mag out, take down lever down but I couldn't get the slide back far enough to turn it in any event. So, based on LostLake and Smitty's thought that the spring wasn't set right, I hand turned the protruding part of the spring rod and **boink** it snapped into place and all seems well. Taking it out to shoot this afternoon. THANKS GUYS!

That is exactly what happened with my new shield. I tried for two hours to get it to lock back and started to think maybe I don't have enough strength in my hands to do this. I took it back to the LGS and asked the young man(30 some years younger than me) to try it. He could not get it to lock back either, and then he moved the spring alittle and it made a click. It then went back with no problem. It's good to have a forum like this where so many folks are willing to help each other.
