I'd interested in what some of you would choose and why. If you didn't own either the Shield or the 9c, but you had to choose between the two, would you buy the no safety Shield 9 for $310 or the 9c for $400 with 6 mags for EDC?

I bought the shield, but one of my shooting friends considers anything less than a full-size .45 to be inadequate for EDC. I don't think you're going to get universal agreement on what is best, because it depends so much on body type, how you dress, training, and personality of the individual. With the right clothes, I can carry a full-size M&P as easily as the Shield; lightly dressed in really hot weather, not so well. You didn't say where you live, hot or cold.

It depends on what condition the guns are in. The 9 C is a nice choice with 6 magazines that are sometimes hard to find and on average, $30 a piece. $310 sounds pretty good for the Shield 9 with no thumb safety. I have both and absolutely love them! Both are really nice guns so I don't think you can go wrong either way. I would probably get the Shield first for EDC this time of the year.

The Shield is thinner and therefore, better for EDC. I personally chose the Shield over the 9c because the grip is a little longer and more comfortable for me to shoot.

They are new with LE discount. The 9C comes with 3 mags, and S&W has a rebate for 3 more. The Shields comes with a nice $310 price tag. Hard choice.

The 9c and Shield footprint size and weight is nominal. The shield is limited because of the mag size and single stack( very awkward if somebody design a different mag unit). The C has the advantage of different magazines size for range and carry and they are available now. My personal choice would be the 9C and if you wanted another weapon the 45C would be a good complement.

After shooting both I got a 9c. The Shield is too small for my hands. I have no trouble carrying the 9c at all. If you can try both guns then you will have a better idea which one will work for you. I was able to rent both at a large gun shop that also had a indoor range.

Held both, went with the 40c for myself, EDC. I have larger hands.
That being said, my GF handled both the shield and 9c, I bought her the 9c.
To each is own, I say rent and shoot both, whatever you feel more natural shooting, go for that. Neither is a bad choice.

I have a Shield and a 9c. Initially I bought the 9c for a range gun and home defense but it shoots so nicely that I decided to try carrying it as well. I'm fairly small, live in Florida (shorts and T shirts most of the time) and I have no issues at all carrying and concealing it. It's almost as comfortable and considerably more comforting. I still carry the Shield as well, but if I had to choose only 1, it would be the 9c for me.

I have both.

The 9c shoots almost as well as the full size. Easy recoil and accurate. I find it can conceal well with just a simple t-shirt, but body type and carry method make a difference.

The Shield 9 shoots smooth but a little stiff in the recoil. I can shoot several boxes though one with no problems, but my fiance is done after 100rds. She can handle the recoil, but it does bother her after the first box. 100rds is plenty to get a good practice with with every range trip or so.

It conceals well do being a little thinner, which can make a difference for some people and carry methods.

I own both and carry both. I typically carry the Shield in the warmer months and the 9c in the winter, but both are comfortable to carry with the right set up.
Good price on both I'd say. I paid $400 for my 9c about three years ago. It was lightly used and came with three mags. I traded a Sig P250 for my Shield. Probably took it on the chin a bit with that, but was willing to do about anything to get away from the mile long trigger pull on the Sig.
If you can, shoot both first. You really can't go wrong either way.

I have both and pocket carry. They look similar in size but the Shield is a lot more comfortable to carry. For me the difference is very noticeable when pocket carrying which is why I carry my Shield's more often.

Hat off to you pocket carrying either one. My pants would be at my knees.😄 Hopefully you at least use a pocket holster.
I EDC IWB M&Pc.357

I have both, but started w/ the Shield as I eased into learning to CC. It's shoots very well and is a littler thinner and more comfortable to carry. Got a deal on a 9c and can put round after round through the same hole.....another nice shooter. A plus, it takes full size mags. Can't go wrong w/ either. 9c fills my hand better put you can grip the Shield just fine to shoot it accurately. Good luck w/ your choice.

I have both the 9c and Shield. If I had to have just one, I would go with the 9c because of the versatility. It conceals well, although I admit not as well as the Shield. You get more rounds with the 9c with the standard mag of course, but you can get even more with the full size mags when you go to the range or to use as a home defense gun. Thankfully, I have both so I don't have to make that hard choice. I carry both depending what my needs are at the time.

I got a Shield for my wife last year and I was planning on getting a Shield 40 for myself. I take my F/S 40 to the range at least once a week and my hands are really used to the feel of the double stacked magazine. When it came time for me to buy a Shield of my own , I no longer liked the feel of the Shield in my hand, and the Compact felt better to me. So I ended up getting a 9c for myself.

So now each week when I go to the range I pull out my 9c and shoot a half a mag with the 12 magazine and a half a magazine of a full size magazine with a Xgrip.

Shield carries much easier 12+ hours a day. Compact is a nice range pistol. However I have a few 1911s that are mugh better range pistols. In my case the compact no longer fit the criteria for me. So I got rid of the compact shortly ag term getting my shield. Turned around bought the ole lady a shield .40 and gave her one of my extra 9mm conversion barrels for it (stock 9mm barrel actually).
