I have been looking ever since they came out and I have yet to get to actually see one in person.

Gun Of The Year

Supply and demand. The Supply cannot keep up with the demand. What I understand is that S&W is making them 24/7.

I spoke with customer service a few months back and I can verify S&W is operating 3 shifts per day manufacturing the Shield and they are shipping daily.

I can not verify a post on this forum S&W is manufacturing 800 Shields per day. That sounds like a boat load but if they are operating 24/7 on an assembly line it is possible.

Isn't it great for those who are fortunate enough to own a Shield to be a part of conceal carry weapon phenomenon.

It is obvious by the demand the Shield has satisfied a niche in the gun market.

This isn't rocket science. People who choose to pack a concealed weapon want as the #1 priority a reliable handgun and it was my experience before I owned a Shield that in a single stack 9mm caliber small enough to fit inside the average pocket reliability was not being satisfied.

I owned a Kahr CM9 and Beretta Nano and I could never get either firearm to fire on all cylinders and both gun forums are littered with reports of failures.

The much anticipated XDs has failure issues and I wont even begin to discuss the Diamond Back short comings.

I believe the genius behind the Shield is S&W did not reinvent the wheel but rather took a successful platform (i.e. M&P) and re-engineered it into a single stack. That in my opinion is why the firearm is reliable and soon to be "Gun of The Year".

I spoke to several gun store owners and they say that they've only seen one or two! Also heard that S&W is back ordered. No one around me has em.

I got both the .40 and the 9mm. Why is everyone having such a hard time finding them, lol.

I've had my Shield 40 for a couple of months now. The only problem is trying to source the 7 round magazines. Per S&W not letting any go out until they catch up with their orders for the Shield itself. I'm not very pleased about this but really have no recourse. Sure wished I could find a ma & pa shop that might have a couple in stock/shelve. Oh Well !

I agree with Russ about the Nano, I had one for months and it was troublefree through the first 1K rounds before I started getting FTE malfunctions with good ammo. The Shield has been rock solid reliable and is a great addition to the M&P line. As far as availability I had no trouble buying my first one just days after it's release, and a 2'nd about a week after the first. The demand has been huge and it is well deserved.
I also bought an XDs which also has turned out to be an excellent pistol and I love the fact it's a 45 in the same size package. My XDs has been just as reliable as my Shield, I mean rock solid 100% reliability.
Both pistols are truly excellent and if S&W follows suit with a Shield in 45acp I'll be buying one of those too.

I grabbed one of the first ones last April when they came out. They don't sit on the shelf. Nice having a LGS that know's and favors customers. I'm betting it will make gun of the year easy. It should anyway. Zero problems with mine.

Try Ebay. Personally I bought the 6 round mags for the .40, I bought 6 of them. Getting one round more wasn't worth the chance of getting a mag that may or may not fall out did not make sense to me.

You just made my day. I almost bought the Nano at the gun show last weekend. I am so happy I didn't buy it now. I have two .40s the older one (lemon) is being traded back to S&W for 9mm. Now let see how long I have to wait. Someone mentioned they are putting Shields 1K a day, the rep I spoke to told me they ship 150 per day. They need to get their story straight. As far the Shield making gun of the year it will not include the .40, the 9mm has great chance. If they get XDMs straight it will also be in the running. I bought one and sold it for $ 150.00 more than I paid for it and never shot it. Then I went to the XDM forum and I am happy I sold it. If you can handle a slightly heavier gun for concealment look at the Ruger SR9C & SR40C they are great and sell for about the same price as the Shield, I bought both. Being a Glock guy, that says alot.

Murphy:

Cheaper than Dirt has 181 7 round Shield magazines for $32.32 each plus shipping in stock.

I entered 900 to see what would happen and it automatically adjusted down to available in stock.

Talk about sticker shock. Almost 6 k for 181 magazines.

If you would like to provide me your credit card number we could clean them out and provide a great Christmas for all our Shield forum friends.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I realize we have many challenges as a nation we must confront, but I also know this is a choice land above all other lands and we are fortunate to enjoy the bounty this great land has to offer us.

Only bad thing about CTD is their shipping is outrageous

Shielded:

You are right.

Cheaper Than Dirt for one $32 magazine is $12.75 shipping and handling.

I would wait until a local gun store had them in stock before paying $45 for one magazine!

Exactly! I use to buy stuff from them a few years ago, & I don't remember it being so bad.

There were many at the two gun shows ( from local gun shops ) I attended over the last 4 weeks
