I shot about 100 rounds this weekend and when I took the pistol apart I discovered this:

I had the same issue with my very first Shield. SW will send you another RSA. I now keep 2 spares in my carry bag. It's not a uncommon problem, easily fixed, and back to a great pistol!

Looks like the metal they are using can't take the recoil. I'm considering the Stainless Steel upgrade just to feel better about using mine as CCW.

Maybe the rsa wasn't seated properly before the assembly, I have two shields in 9mm with probably 500 rnds each and a newer 45 with 200 rnds, never had any RSA issues. I will get the SS upgrade whenever it fails.

Yea thats messed up. Supposed to be flat. Contact S&W and get another one.

Shield9MM hit it on the head. I live chatted with Customer Service and he stated that it is a result of being installed out of alignment. They offered to send one free of charge and I told them since it was my fault I would be happy to pay for it. They declined my offer and said one will be in the mail, no charge. Can't beat that kind of service.

That's messed up, I've never seen an RSA do that. Never had an issue in any of my other polymer pistols, i.e. Glock, Walther and H&K. At least Smith and Wesson is good about sending a new RSA to customers. Hope you get your Shield up and running shortly.

Just for my education if the spring was misaligned wouldn't the metal be bent in the opposite direction?
Edit: Unless the slide was dragging but there is no indication of this and the function was 100%.

I take it we don't think that lip is intentional, to help retain the RSA in position ?

Nope, that lip isn't intentional.

I'd assume (maybe bad on me) that it wasn't seated all the way, but far enough to function. However, S&W is taking care of it, so good for the OP!
