I recently learned (perhaps here) our cotton polishing cloths should be laundered without fabric softener and dried without "dryer sheets". I believe I was also told why, but have no recollection of the particulars.
While awaiting the Boss Lady's preparations to go out to dinner, I started to wipe off several guns I took to Columbus. And that's all I did----wipe them off----no pre-wipe with solvent or anything else. I wiped them with a "clean" cloth------laundered with no fabric softener----dried with no "dryer sheets". The results were absolutely amazing!! What apparently was some sort of dry, dulling film was gone! The guns ended up looking they'd been waxed, and then polished for hours----which they have not.
Truth be known, the guns looked pretty good before-----before I knew better!

And in the interest thoroughness, I am now advised they were washed with Ivory Snow detergent (for the first time)----as opposed to Tide (with bleach). So it's one or the other, or the combination.
