Looking for some information about shipping a firearm. I have posted a Glock 22 RTF that I am trying to sell locally but think it would sell faster if I could ship. Do I have to ship to a local FFL dealer or how does that work, any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A modern handgun can be shipped private party to FFL, but you have to use FedEx Priority Overnight or UPS Next Day Air, at +/- $100. Your local FFL can use USPS Priority Mail, and even with their fee added it should be much less than that.

Also make sure the buyer knows the gun is legal to transfer where they live. Hope this is helpful.

The online gun auction site (GB) has an excellent section that covers in detail the legalities of shipping firearms. This is in case you want to know more. But everything murphydog said is consistent with my experience. Realize that some FFL holders refuse to accept shipment from a private individual, even though it is legal.

The most important thing is to make sure you follow all aspects of the law when shipping a firearm.

Murphydog is correct, handguns may only be shipped thru the Post Office, FFL to FFL. Individuals may ship a handgun to a FFL but they have to use FedEx or UPS. Now if you are shipping a longarm out of state, an individual may ship thru the Post Office, but it still has to go to a FFL. In Texas, individuals may send a longarm to each other within Texas by any means, but that is not advised.
