Shipping via Fed X

I went to Fed X to get fee for shippng firearm - approx $73 overnight - I said no way - she said appox $33 for 2nd day - She was stamping boxes USPS PRIORITY - not firearms - are they connected or can I ship to FFL not overnight FED X? thanks

Was it a "FEDEX HUB" or store?? Much like the UPS stores they probably are just a franchise..and have different rules as it were..
Just a guess on my part but I do know the store fronts are more expensive than shipping direct from the hub..

I recently shipped 2 rifles FedEx ground. The first one I told the guy at the counter it was a firearm and he said "That doesn't matter, it's just another box to us." So I didn't say anything when I shipped the next one.
 
Are you shipping a handgun or a long gun? Longarms can go ground. If you're shipping a handgun, it is often cheaper to take it to an FFL and have them ship it via Priority Mail. FFL's can mail handguns, whereas an individual can't.
 
I was under the same impression as you until I spoke with Fedex HQ. They referred me to the following: http://www.fedex.com/us/servic...html?link=4#firearms

Scroll down to the firearms section and you will see that they still require priority overnight and shipping from a Fedex hub.

The only time I have ever shipped a gun was to the manufacturer and they told me to ship it priority mail and it was returned it to me the same way.
 
I now see why some members stipulate FTF - I think that will be easier

Depends on where you are (I can see where Illinois would be less accommodating). There are more counterpersons who DON'T know the regs than those who do. I've used 2nd Day Air as well as Ground at the local hub. I tell 'em what it is and how I want to ship. No problems......so far.

While FTF sales are a little easier, you have a much better chance of selling if you're willing to ship.

I have found that FedEx ground is generally the cheapest for long guns.

If you have to ship a pistol try the FFL search on Gunbroker. You might find someone with a reasonable fee. Heck, I found a guy in my town who doesn't charge any transfer fees for outgoing firearms.
 
sorry I am causing confusion - I was at a FEDX hub - NOT KINKOS - for many years I have used this terminal to ship items (NON FIREARMS) - I am doing easy way now on - found FFL to ship - he charges $39.95 - he breaks law if he ships THE WRONG WAY - not me - I will just add $30 to sale and eat the $10 - thank you all for the info

I think the better question is where does it say they can't go 2nd day air?

# Carrier will transport and deliver firearms as defined by the United States Gun Control Act of 1968, between areas served in the U.S., but only between:

1. Licensed importers; licensed manufacturers; licensed dealers; licensed collectors; law enforcement agencies of the U.S. or any department or agency thereof; and law enforcement agencies of any state or any department, agency or political subdivisions thereof; or
2. Where not prohibited by local, state and federal law, from individuals to licensed importers, licensed manufacturers or licensed dealers (and return of same).

# Carrier cannot ship or deliver firearms C.O.D.
# Upon presenting the goods for shipment, the person tendering the shipment to Carrier is required to notify Carrier that the shipment contains a firearm. The outside of the package(s) must not be marked, labeled or otherwise identify that the package(s) contains a firearm.
# The shipper and recipient must be of legal age as identified by applicable law.
# The shipper and recipient are required to comply with all applicable government regulations and laws, including those pertaining to labeling. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives can provide assistance.
# Carrier will transport small-arms ammunition when packed and labeled in compliance with local, state and federal law, and the Hazardous Materials section of this Service Guide. Ammunition is an explosive and must be shipped separately as hazardous materials. You agree not to ship loaded firearms or firearms with ammunition in the same package.
 
This is also where I got confused. As I read it there are no specific shipping instructions so why not FedEx Ground, aside from leaving it in their system longer in order for it to disappear? Second Day Air is truly great news as that is a massive savings from overnight.

Yep, It says over night. I also went to the fedex site and dug and dug. I clicked everything I could and never did I link to anything that said overnight. I maintain that is all a reasonable and prudent person should be required to do.

Maybe I missed something on the Fedex site but I don't think so. I'm not going to beg them to take more of my money.

I didn't see anything about 2nd day air but they do still have the 'overnite service' stipulation posted above. UPS has recently allowed handguns to go 2nd day air, but that service may only be available to persons with established dailey pickup accounts or something close to that. It doesn't seem to be available at the customer counters. But then the rules are forever changing at the customer counters depending on which clerk is working
