Shoe Gun Design

I was looking at pictures of a new Walther semi.

Something was tickling my mind......and I finally realized what it was.

To my eye, many of the newer batch of guns appeared to be
designed by the same people who impart the "look" of stylish
sports shoes.

Also, uber tactical "COMBAT" knives.

This is not a positive perception.

Anyone else.................

I think it is more the polymer thing. They pretty much look alike. Probably old age talking, but I like steel or alloy guns. I have some of the plastic jobs, but they just don't have the same visual appeal. Not just wheelguns, which I'm a particularly a fan of but the all metal autos too. My MP40 and MP40c are flawless and accurate, but IMO they just aren't as pretty as my S&W 1911 Sc or my 586 or my Ruger Vaquero. Old age no doubt.

I thought this was going to be about a gun you could use to literally shoot yourself in the foot. Silly of me.

It's clear many manufacturers are designing guns and knives for the young shooter/knife user who watches a lot of TV and movies. The knives especially amuse me. They don't look practical for actual cutting duty (SEE: tanto, American) but just fine for taking out enemy sentries. At the mall.

Actually there are still some very fine knives and guns being manufactured, some of them looking pretty traditional and quite functional; but my critical eye seems to find the other kind.

Are you talking about the Walther PPQ grip? Pick one up. It's the most comfortable natural pointing pistols made. It's like a mold of your hand. Maybe the look is unusual but as a weapon it's an extension of your arm

This is exactly what the person reviewing the gun said.

I have no doubt it is true.

Please examine the entire look of the gun and see if you
catch my point.

If not, it's ok. I also have no doubt many of the shoes I am
referring to are very comfortable and functional.

But they still look like overdone sci-fi props to my eye.

No, those shoes suck and it's really not a fair comparison. I don't see anything wrong looking with the PPQ. The slide is tapered up to save weight. Aggressive slide serrations for easier and better grip. Rail for if you want to mount something.

Overall I think it's a nice looking firearm. I understand everyone is crazy about 1911 but it was a practical firearm for its time. I would bet that JMB would design something similar if he were alive today

Don't think Dr. No had a shoe knife. You mean Rosa Kleb, from the KGB? (Probably SMERSH, if memory serves. I haven't read, "From Russia With Love" in decades.) Kleb's shoe-mounted blade was poisoned with venom from the Japanese fugu fish. It was a potent neurotoxin that nearly killed Bond.

The topic of this thread makes me think of something a terrorist would try to sneak aboard a plane. I don't see its relevance to what's really being discussed.

To add a little more to this.....

HK recently released their vp9 striker fired. It has a PPQ looking grip (actually the PPQ has a HK p30 grip), a nice trigger. Not as nice as the PPQ but much better than glock. Fully ambidextrous and they cleaned up the slide release a little. Complaints from the P2000 and newer HKs were that the releases were too big and people inadvertently rode the release even on the last round causing the slide to go back into battery. In the back, along with the aggressive slide serrations there are 2 little ears or tabs that stick out just a little to make grabbing the slide more positive and it takes P30 mags. All that, HK reliability and a MSRP of $700 and change. My dealer has them at $609. That's just a 60 dollars more than glock.
