Shoe on the other foot for LEO self defense

I saw this article in Briefing at work a couple of weeks ago. I wish stuff like this was aired on CNN, but we all know that no one wants to shine any light on this stuff. It's too in-fashion right now to hate the police and look at us all like ultra-violent bullies that just can't wait to shoot our first felon.

The sad part is, we're doing a job that no one else wants, yet so many people think that they would be better at it than us, even though they have no formal training, nor any concept about what it takes to do this job. These are the same people that ask, "why couldn't you just shoot the gun out of his hand, or "Why couldn't you just shoot him in the leg?"

Yes, I hate this stuff.

I'm not a policeman, but I am an avid shooter and defensive instructor. Every time I hear people ask these questions, I want to take them to the range and have them shoot at a target. I want them to see that it's not so easy to hit such a tiny, moving target.

They watch too many movies.

I've never wanted to be a cop, I couldn't be a cop, I don't have the temper for the job. I'll do what I can to help the cops, but be one? I wouldn't last a week.

Sign of the times, sadly. Many moons ago my old agency offered the Urban League the opportunity to come in and use our F.A.T.S. machine, which offers real life and death, shoot or don't shoot scenario's for training purposes. They had been complaining incessantly about our shooting too many " suspects ". Bottom line,.... NO ONE came in for the training. They do not care nor do they want to know the facts. It doesn't play well, so to speak.
