I've done tons of research.
The guys that have been doing it for decades and never ever had one issue, still cover their butts by saying they don't recommend it.

What say you?

Sort of like shooting 9mm in a .38 Super chamber. It will work, the problem being that there is no headspacing other than the extractor grasping the case rim. Part of the concern is that the primer may ignite while the case is forced more deeply into the chamber, allowing it to slam backwards under high pressure into the breech face, possibly resulting in damage. Another issue is proper feeding ot the .40 S&W cartridge from the 10mm magazine. In general, feeding of 9mm cartridges from a .38 Super magazine is not 100% reliable (I know this for a fact), and the same situation may exist with .40 S&W in a 10mm magazine. I do not know as I have not tried it.

Can it be done? Yes it can, Should it be done, no. It's a stupid idea. But yes there are those that do it, They make different calibers for a reason.

Drop a 40 SW into a 10 mm barrel (out of the gun) and see how far it falls in there.

If you load a 40 SW in a 10 mm it will headspace on the extractor so all the force of the round going off will be exerted on the extractor. They were not made for that. Eventually it's gonna break,

I guess the question is why??

If you want to shoot 40 SW I believe there are a few of those around,;)

With the internet today you can find people doing pretty much anything just cause they can,

I've done it in my Glock G40 to see if it works. It did and I guess I'd do it if in a pinch but otherwise I don't make a habit of it.
I'm guessing the same thing for the 45GAP in an ACP chamber but I've not tried it.

Has anyone even seen anything chambered in .45 GAP recently? or any .45 GAP ammo? I could never see the point, other than for allowing a .45 to be used in a pistol made to use a 9mm-length magazine. I'd think the best thing to do for anyone having a 10mm pistol who wanted to shoot .40 S&W would be to buy a .40 S&W barrel for the same gun.

I concur with the sentiments above. Shooting .40 out of a S&W 610 revolver or other 10mm wheelie is no different than .38 from a .357 etc. Shooting .40 from a semi that is chambered for a 10mm is dumb. There are .40>10mm barrel conversions out there so do that. Stick to the caliber stamped on the gun, the potential for nasty issues isn't worth it.

A coworker of mine has a couple of 25/625 revolvers in .45ACP. I gave him my supply of .45GAP when I offloaded a Glock 37. Those shoot just fine & he appreciated it. Again, they're revolvers not .45G in a .45A semi-auto. He's also using half & full moon clips, no headspacing issues.

The aforementioned issues that can arise with the extractor is true. Nitwits have damaged a few by trying to shoot .357 Sig in .40 chambers! Talk about STUPID: what exactly do they expect for accuracy?? Especially when so many .40's can be converted to .357Sig with a barrel change.

Shot a 45 GAP Saturday. Accurate and pleasant round. Not too much unlike a stout 40 S&W. can be easily reloaded with 45 ACP compnnents. Brass still readily plentiful.

I have conversion barrels for two of my 10mm's and have never had an issue with the 10mm mags not working. I would only shoot 40 in the 10 barrel in an emergency, never tried it on purpose.

I loved the Glock 37. But the ammo was a PITB to find here in AZ. Only 1 LGS had food for it. I sure it's more popular in the eastern US since a few big LEA's use it. Never really caught on here. The concept is sound tho despite the naysayers.

But, I NEVER tried shooting the .45G ammo out of my .45ACP 1911. That is just flat dumb!

Now here's a fly in the ointment. While a 1911 is supposed to headspace on the case mouth, the fact is that most factory ammo cases are shorter than the chamber on a 1911. So reality is that most 1911s headspace on the extractor. Since I've only cut chambers for 1911s I can't speak for other guns chambers but, I'd suspect that most chambers are longer than the cartridge cases used in them. That would meant that most autoloaders headspace on the extractor.

Having said that, I don't condone using the wrong ammo. Being able to do a thing, it doesn't necessarily follow that you must do a thing.
