Shooting a 12 gauge shotgun in dark enclosed space

If you don't know for sure who or what's in the house I'd strobe a light or fire at the ceiling. Threads here from LEOs are much appreciated for making you think twice about what or who maybe breaking in or at the wrong door drunk or desperate to flee an attacker... (Only the VP and his lovely wife are allowed to blindly fire a shotgun through a door if threatened). Hey loc n load... I am very curious about the electronic hearing protection for the same reason. What's the DB rating and how well do they work in the real world??

I don't think it matters if it's a 12 gauge or a .45, or even a 9mm - it's going to be ear-ringing loud the rest of the night and next day, and blinding for a moment or two.
And if this is so, I would rather take the shotgun route and have a better chance of not having to worry about the dead BG after the fact.
That is why I sleep with a Moss Persuader in bed with me, loaded with Federal 127, and a G30 less than a foot from my head.

As already stated, I'll still be alive to deal with my aching ears.

The Peltors work very well.....I always use sonic ear valve plugs in conjunction with them, as I have damaged ears and a permanent 24/7 ringing in both. The instructor cadre that I worked with all had the Peltor's with the wireless comm gear, so that we could communicate with the instructors.....but my personal muffs, are the Peltor tactical 7 electronic muffs....I have several pair, one that is designed for shooting long guns, so that the stock does not "crack" the muff when shouldered.
The great thing about the Peltors is that with the ear plugs I can crank up the gain on the volume and hear everything going on around me....and hear commands or communicate with shooter's on the line w/o "cracking" a muff to hear. Don't know the DB spec's...but they definitely attenuate. I believe Peltor has a web site, they probably list their spec's.
In an enclosed area you can feel the pressure wave "clap" both of your ear muffs when firing....which would damage your hearing / ears. I have been using the Peltor's for over 20 years, have used them in all kinds of scenario's....training & the "real deal".
Highly recommend them.
