I "love" shooting my 642 w/158 gr RNFP's and 3.5 gr Bullseye. I can hit swinging steel pie plate targets (6" or 7" dia) consistently at 7 yds and about 50% of the time at 10 yds. I shoot a) strong hand, two hands, b) weak hand, two hands, c) strong hand, one hand, and d) weak hand, one hand. Does anyone here shoot past 10 yds with a snub? :)

My range is 15 yards so I always shoot at that. Wasn't the easiest at first, but my average groups are good enough for sd situations now. Double action only shooting.

How long have you been shooting yours?

i shoot my 2.5" 66 at 25 yds all the time. if you can hit at 25 you can hit anything short of that. 50 yds 12" plate. to me standing on the target and shooting at it takes all the fun out of it.

I practice on a 25 yard range too. At that distance I concentrate on hitting the target 100% but not necessarily bull. From there, I usually move closer and then concentrate more on precise placement.

My co workers and I shoot j frames and Glock 26s at 100m from time to time. Keeping rounds inside a "Q" target is very doable. At this range, the j frame sights require a ton of attention. The G26 sights are much easier to see.

have seen members w/ snubs @ the range. if a new weapon they get disponded 1st. time out at the range. usually find out new to shooting and haven't had any tranning. they try the 15 yd. steel plates. when asked what they are doing wrong. usually ask if they tried shooting it at a close range, 5 yd., small 2" bull target to see how it is grouping. answer usually a no sight in shooting. also suggest useing a 22 cal rev. if not weapon savy to practice trigger pull, then shoot the snub. of course high grip, stance, breathing important. used a 2" snub for years. i think muscle memory has it place in shooting a snub. practice and usage a must. all weapons shoot better than the person using them, usage seems to help bring out the accuracy.

Not on a regular basis but I will stretch it out to 25 yards on the plate rack at my range. It's a blast to shoot plates with a snubby just to know I can hit them that far with a 2" barrel. The guns are plenty capable the sights just make it difficult.

25 meters is standard for targetshooting in Sweden.
No problem shooting my 2.5" modell 19 at that range.
I even have tryed it at 100 meters to, hard but not inpossible. :D

I shoot them at 25 yards and occasionally 50. At 50 I can keep them on a sheet of paper.... Usually

Internet snubby match anyone?

David

I shoot 12yards with my 340PD standard and move back to 20yards on a Q target often. Very accurate little guns.

2" .38 snub

Used to shoot my off duty gun, a model 36 chief's special with 148 gr WC at 25 yards all the time - great tight shooting gun. We would occassionally go to the river and shoot floating leaves - great practice - great accuracy with the "little guy"

I usually succumb to ten yard and twenty-five yard shots at the range just to say that I did it, that I can, and that my gun is accurate at that distance if I do my job. I have around ten snub nosed revolvers so they all have gotten that opportunity over time. The best ever was my Model 10-5/2", purchased in 1981 brand new by me.

I'm up for an Internet snubby match! Someone needs to write some rules!

From 442's to Government Models all of my shooting with handguns is at 50ft. to 25yds except for the occasional mag/cylinder at 100 yds. Shorter distances aren't much of a challenge. I have never understood the appeal of shooting at spitting distance.

I have never understood the appeal of shooting at spitting distance.

Because that's the distance at which we are most likely to encounter bad guys. Target looks a world different at arms length than at 100 yards.

Check YouTube for a video showing a DEA agent shooting himself when atttempting to engage a target at one yard. the short distance bumfoozled him.

How long have you been shooting yours?

I've been shooting 1911's for about 15 years. Got my 642 about 3 years ago. Put approximately 1500 rounds thru it so far. I'm sure the gun is fully capable of shooting accurately at long distances. I try to dry fire about 400 times between shooting live ammo. From reading the above posts, it looks like there is a lot of room for improvement for me........So, I'm going to keep increasing the distance to the targets.
