Shooting a snubby in IDPA!!!

I think that the use of a real carry gun from a real carry holster is to be encouraged. That is, after all, what the sport is supposed to be about. IPSC got away from it, and IDPA, with its categories and rules, is starting to get silly as well. Use a real carry gun from a real carry holster and "compete against yourself" if you have to. Will you win the match? Probably not. Will you win a gunfight if you are ever so unlucky as to be in one? You just might, and that is worth far more than a trophy or other prize.

I am looking for a decent OWB holster for the snub and will use it for IDPA also. Thinking maybe a J.I.T. Holster or a pancake leather style holster. Totally plan to get this done. Have to figure out my Speed loader holder for the 5 shot. Got it figured out for the K frame. Got plenty of time before things start around here. Thanks for all the encouragement. Really want to do it to get better with the carry gun as everyone should. Jim.

For a holster, I had these folks make me an IWB out of Kydex. Its a nice holster made for the gun. In this case, he needed MY gun to make it.

I shoot a rimfire match at the local club every winter. I do quite well. Last year I asked for my scoped gun if I could use my Ruger security six with wadcutters. They said yes. This year the first match I was the only one shooting iron sight hand gun (22). I asked if next week I could use my chiefs special using wadcutters. They said yes, so I asked if I could use my BG38 with the laser as my scoped handgun. I am hoping this catches on.
The range is 34' indoor. Exhaust fans are OK.

I am just a regular joe, no LEO or anything else. I would like to make the match more fun and draw in more people. I would love a snubby match.

I did some figuring. 148 hb wadcutter with 3.0 WW231 is 625 fps, 125 ft lbs. These were keyholing out of my BG38. I switched to 3.0 Bullseye for 685 fps.
2 hand hold is allowed. Match is 10 shots.

Have fun is the most important part

I have shot steel matches with a 2" model 10 and won the revolver division by a bit as well as kicked some auto ***. I have also shot the IDPA with a five shot snubby. That was a lot of work and annoying overall for the whole power on steel at distance. I learned from this and brought magnums for the steel at the next bug gun match. MD said it was cheating to shoot pop pop loads at paper and magnums to knock down the steel. I told him if I can load a split cylinder on the street I can do it in a game and there is no PF in bug. He didn't quite know how to respond. I didn't win, but I had fun. I didn't do any harm except to ruffle a pompous soul's feathers and he needed it.

I will be getting my Speed Loaders today (Safariland Comp 1) and will be looking for a speed loader pouch of some kind to put them in. I have all that for my K Frame for IDPA and I have CD-2's for USPSA and Icore. I am going to get it done and have a blast I am sure. I am getting all my ducks in a row. Jim

Even if you were shooting SSR instead of BUG, this would be legal as long as both types of ammunition make 105 Power Factor out of a 4.2" barreled gun with the gun tipped rearwards on every shot. Technically, the steel should be set to fall at less than 105 PF because that load is probably going to make 90 PF out of your gun, but its legal by the IDPA rulebook. Convincing the MD to set the steel right is difficult, you're doing the right thing by bringing another load for steel.

I have been looking for a M60 for a while. I really wanted a new 60 Pro with a 3" Barrel. I will be using my K-Frame 19-5 in most games and will shoot my J-Frame in IDPA. The only J-frame I had was a Taurus 605 ,which I loved. Well this last weekend I was in a shot that I know the owner but don't go into very much. I walk in and see a 3" J-frame. It is a Taurus 85B3 and I fell in Love. I still would like to get a 60 Pro in the future but this little 85 is sweet and sweet shooting. It will be a keeper.
I was concerned about speedloaders for the J-Frame. I have some Safariland Comp 1's that I planned to use but was hard to get a hold of. I fixed that. These things should work good and the 3" 85 will be a blast to shoot. Jim
