So iv been shooting for a good while and am a prety good shot. Now theres two guns i always shoot left no matter what i do and that is a wiley clapp commander and the shield. Iv tried everything under the sun to correct it even made sure the sights were straight with a micrometer. No matter what i do i always shoot these two guns left. Could it just be the grip and i doest work well with my hands? I have a glock 23 that i can drive nails with and punch the same hole over and over but the shield is a different story. Iv put over 800 rounds since i bought the shield and only 10 have hit center target. I dont want to give up on the shield but it might just be one of those guns that doesnt work for me? help me out.:(

there is a reason why the sights move.. and it is not to center them and call it a day..

Iv always had my sights centered and i shot dead center. But i get what your saying i should try to adjust accordingly. I guess im stubborn on thinking if there perfectly centered then its me and not the gun.

I have had guns that I had to move the rear sight quite a bit but most of the time it doesn't take much. There is a formula that gets you close it has to do with sight radius, distance to target and the distance you are off from bulls eye (mathematical equation) but i just shoot and adjust sight.

It might be you, and the way you grip the gun, and pull the trigger. It might just be that the guns in question just shoot a little to the left when the sights are squared up.

Either way, after 800 plus rounds, if you are getting good groups - to the left of center, then move your rear sight to the right until the groups reflect center hits on target. If it is you as the cause, you are doing whatever you are doing consistently, so a sight adjustment will help.

I am that way with single actions, particularly those with thin grips. Tight groups, but to the left. I know it is how I am gripping them with my huge hands. I found that resting my right thumb on the revolvers left recoil shield when firing usually will bring my groups to center.

I agree with the sight adjustments suggested. But if you insist that that is not the answer, then check your grip. If you shoot left, you need more finger on the trigger so as not to push left as you pull. Maybe a slightly smaller grip?

As mentioned above, it could be you. I have issues shooting left also with certain guns. I've narrowed it down to my cross eye dominance and grip.

When I get tired after a few hundred rounds I start "milking" the grip which causes me to string left. I will take a 20-30 minute break and the issue vanishes.

The bit of info lacking here is what is your distance and are you shooting freehand?

Groups under 25 yards are hard to interpret: even if good and on target.

At 7 yards, you should be able to hit center mass in un-timed fire with almost anything.

Groups under 25 yards are tough to interpret, especially groups fired freehand and un-timed.

If you're talking about 7 yards, it's misleading: especially in-timed and Freehand.

A 2 inch group at 7 yards isn't as impressive as it sounds in terms of handgun accuracy.

Traditionally, group size quoted regarding handguns refer to 25 yard groups.

If you can't hit center of mass at 7 yards, there is a problem.

Most likely trigger control or sights , but could be lots of things such as sight picture, chasing the holes etc.

Back up to longer distance.

That said, the way modern fixed sights are installed at the factory on modern pistols is not a precision process, no matter what folks say about CMC processes.

Just my opinion, of course.

when I encounter the need to move a sight....I usually adjust the front sight if possible..as a tiny amount of movement will move things significantly.

On the Shield you need to adjust the front sight. I don't know why people keep saying adjust the rear sight...1) doing so requires removal of the screw and 2) the book that comes with the gun tells you to make adjustments on the front sight.

If you're shooting left, push front sight left.

If you don't have a sight pusher tool use a brass punch.

Repeat as necessary until POI = POA.

You may need to remove the magazine extension and see if it works better that way. That extension can cause the little finger to squirrel the grip inside the hand, changing the grip and the pointing of the weapon. I always fire my G27 without a magazine extension. See this video and try it out, you have nothing to lose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdqIhmu9***

Iv checked my finger placement and have moved my finger way far in trying to pull it back right but doesn't seem to work. so I'm going to move the front sight a little. Iv tried different grips and everything. One thing i did notice is when i pull the trigger and stop it right at the breaking point if i squeeze till it breaks I'm less accurate then if i just jerk the sucker back. I have never done this jerking technique in any of my shooting but for the shield its working for me. Just thought it was a little odd.

My Shield shot left for the first few range trips. I think it had to do with the size/thinkness. This gun is comfortable to hold. But, does not feel like it belongs, like my full-size. I had to make a few adjustments to my grip and pay super close attention to my trigger pull, to get more centered shots. Now my M&P9 feels like it is made just for my hand, particularly. I drive nails with that thing.

This really helped me with my Shield too:

My bullets go low left from my 9mm Shield as well. Always have and always........hmm maybe not. That video snippet was pretty good info and I plan to try that more finger wrap thing on all my hand guns. Just trying it here at the desk it feels more controllable. Well, we'll see this week some time. Thanks!

im glad im not alone with the whole left thing. My wiley clapp that i shot left also had slimmer style grips so maybe the slim thing is why i shoot left. I adjusted the sights a little today, thank god my wife has a sight pusher for the shield at the shop so I'm taking it to the range.
