It was at the entry to the Medina (Chapman) Annex. That is west of the main base, and is used for training. That is where all of the small arms ranges are located, also a huge munitions magazine complex. The USAF Gunsmith Shop is also there, along with the USAF dog training facility and some areas that people don't talk much about. That was where I worked. Anyone who has gone through USAF basic training has been on the Annex.

There have been a couple of reports of "delivery drivers" claiming to work for companies attempting to make deliveries to Quantico and a second base in MD, that I cannot recall the name of.

No firearms play but appeared to be probing gaining entry into the bases using this method.

Never really saw any follow up on what was discovered in either incident.

In this instance it seems odd that after the initial shots fired the suspects would return. It doesn't sound as if they attempted to breach the front gate leaving the motivations in the dark.

If they read this forum at least now they know what is on the other side of the gate where they were at, if they didn't before.

Maybe it's the paranoia in me but I can't help but wonder if these are tests, recons, probes, or something along those lines to see just what the responses are going to be.

You're not the only "paranoid" that thinks that. I told my wife months ago to expect something "nefarious" to happen in our country between then and early November...........

November is creeping up on us swiftly........ Prayers for our Nation are in order. Too many "unknown elements" have been inserted into our beloved Country to not think otherwise.

I sent a link to the article to my son (recently retired USAF Security Forces). He said that wasn't too uncommon there and that when he was there they had a murder/suicide at the gate. Blew my mind.

Not much is unknown about the annex. Back in the early 1960s there was a serious nuke device explosive incident there, but it was not a nuclear detonation.

I remember some similar shoot ‘em up incidents at other AFB gates. I was TDY at Luke once when someone tried to crash a gate and was killed by a gate guard.

I read on another forum that there has been numerous incidents like this at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling AFB , Washington, DC that for some reason has not made it into the press because of the proximity to DC. Wouldn't surprise me one bit. Kraynky, I think if it were to happen it's going to be AFTER the election.

Just got home from helping my son move to San Antonio. Heard this on the radio on the way down yesterday. No details included. Just said shots were fired and returned by base security with no injuries.

On another note, I wasn't prepared for the rush of emotion when I left his apartment this afternoon to come home. One of the hardest things I've done.

We have been at war for many decades with several adversarial nations and governments that wish us harm, and who are constantly assessing our strengths and weaknesses in various ways.

They test security at public buildings and facilities using social engineering techniques. They attempt to gain access to government computer systems. They conduct surveillance at government or military facilities or installations. They try to befriend, bribe, or compromise elected officials or others who perform security-sensitive jobs, or who have access to classified information.

Most Americans are blissfully unaware of this activity until it makes the news, but it goes on all the time, and there are thousands of US Government employees whose job it is to protect our country from these bad actors.

Sounds like......

Sounds like they handled it well. I wonder if the shooter had some beef with the base or what it represents, or whether it was just some dumbass getting his kicks. It seems unusual that they guy would come back. Hopefully, he got discouraged after they fired at him and even more hopefully, they have enough of a description of the vehicle/perp to find them.

I erased my original snarky comment.

But, I take it that when you tack this on to me pointing out the couple of recent probing of gate security issues in that area, I somehow need a lesson on the real world.

If not, my mistake, but thanks for your expertise in the area, to help me understand.

Guess I replaced the original one with another one. Sorry.
