This past week, I bought a 2021 RAM 3500 Chassis Cab truck. No box on it. 10,000lb. GVWR package. This thing is so HEAVY DUTY, it beeps when you back it up! :) I got employee pricing since my dad was a Chrysler retiree. There was also a $1,000 rebate. Plus, they gave me $33,000 on trade for my 2017 RAM 2500. How could I say no? I planned on purchasing a commercially manufactured flat-bed and having it installed. Guess what? I'm looking at four to six months to get one if I order now. Guess who's going to be welding up his own new flat-bed? :)

On my recent road trip "we are hiring" signs everywhere, mostly mom and pop stores. I've even got emails asking me to apply for a job from Hertz and many local businesses.

Last night at one of the local joints, the waitresses were busing tables themselves, and struggling to cover the hordes of people in the restaurant.

Jobs are going begging.

There's not enough money to drag me back to work anywhere.

Strange things are in shortage. I like chili dogs, something I guess left over from when I was a kid. Anyway when I went to pick up a can of chili at Wallyworld there was no chili of any kind. I had to pick up stuff to make my own. As to labor problems the AM Vet I like to hit every Friday evening for a beer and a bite to eat may have to close because help is so hard to find. A very nice lady has been working herself to death trying to keep it going but as she is in her 60s she just can't keep doing it. I have many years as a food service specialist. But at 76 I can't do it anymore. I would love to run the place but I know I just can't

Over the last few weeks, the local media outlets have been running stories of chicken wing shortages and nursing home staffer shortages.

A lot of bars and restaurants are not getting enough wings due to processing plants slowing down and the prices are on the rise.

Now there'''s a chicken wing shortage, too

Maybe I'll have to go over to the local Eagles Aerie to check out the supply of boneless wings.

There's apparently shortage of chlorine for swimming pools, due in part to a fire that closed one of three major plants.. Glad mine has a salt cell.

There's a small new subdivision going up near me and they've spent the last year moving dirt, installing infrastructure and it stopped a month ago. No foundations have gone in and I'm guessing the crazy lumber prices may be playing a part in that

I got estimates for a new privacy fence back in December. I found out that the neighbors fence was two and a half feet over the property line. Long story short. Now, The new fence is over $3000 more than in Dec. Anything further and it gets political.

Congratulations on the new truck.

I went by a KFC today they had a 4 x 8 ft sign saying help wanted.

During the first pandemic bail out, people on unemployment were getting an extra $600.00 per week. During this one, they are getting $300.00 per week. In effect, they were getting paid more money not to work than to work.

Maybe you can come up with a way private sector industries can match that sort of "benefit."

I dunno,if unemployment pays better than the job,the job definitely sucks

There are shortages of many items as well as people willing to work.
The latest may be gas, as the Colonial Pipeline is closed do to a computer hijacking. Lots of folks at the local gas station this AM. One only had regular, low octane, gas for sale which is normally what they run out of first. At 21 MPG I am really happy that I drive less than 100 miles a week.

Why is it that so many Americans have a problem with the poor and those who have to work for slave wages??
I really don't get it. Would you rather be in their shoes?

A lot of people work because they need a place to live. The tenants in my rent house is a man who works in sales and the wife is a doctor in psychology with her own business. They didn't pay rent for months and I went to court to evict them and the judge told us to go the the CARES table in the hallway. The people at the table ask me how much back rent my tenant owed and I told them $5,500.00 and they said they would give me a check for $8,440 to pay them ahead a few months and I could pick up the check Tuesday. That was last December and I just got an email from CARES that it is fully funded again for this year and I don't even need to file for eviction if a tenant is behind on rent. It's now much easier to get the money.

If you have to make your own, may as well make it a dump bed. Makes it easy to unload. Even a flat bed can be a dump bed for lumber, dirt, etc.

My brother and I sold our apartment complex in 8/2006. and the last of the Executive Rental Houses in 2014. In talking to friends that still have rentals, absolutely no one is paying their own rent! Some do bother to get assistance but with the moratorium on Ohio evictions, most don't bother to try for assistance!

This is NOT the foundation for a stable civilization!

Equals,

A weak dollar and inflation.

I fear the correction is gonna hurt a whole bunch.

Come to Idaho.
Some Red state. Here if you are a below average under achiever, any age, any education level and you know what you are doing you can rake in well over $30K + a year for doing nothing and that does not include the Federal disincentive of $300 weekly for unemployment.
Don't know about other states, but here unskilled labor does not pay anywhere near that much.

I am not the least surprised by the lead time for the OP's Flat bed.
Mrs. chukar works for a large metal fab shop. All metal prices are skyrocketing now. Supplies are iffy at best. Certain sheet metal gauges are all but impossible to acquire at any price.
Concrete is also hard to get around here right now. You cannot call and get a load delivered with a day or two notice. I am told 2-3 weeks. I am thinking that is stalling more construction than the lumber prices are.
A good friend works for a company that is now paying their in state truck drivers almost $40 an hour with full benefits and cannot keep them on staff.
I bought a new pickup last fall and was told then that the wait time for a camper shell was 12 weeks. I checked the other day and it has not improved at all. Guess I will just order and wait.

Stihl Power Products. Was looking at battery powered trimmer and blower. One place was out of model I wanted. Went to another dealer. They had both in stock. Bought them as they told me that they were having a difficult time getting shipments and if I waited I may not be able to find the ones I wanted. Pleased with them. Having arthritis in hands and my gas powered units were hurting hands. Battery ones much lighter.
