Hi everyone new guy here , not new to handguns or S&W just the forum . Bought my first S&W in 1977 (model 37) , still have it , others have come and gone . Shot competition for 12 years , got sidetrack by race cars and have been away from shooting for quite awhile . Recently i bought a 4003 TSW and a shorty 40 2000 . I did not buy the S40 for an investment i got it because i like it ! However after doing some research it seems the S40 is a bit of a collectable . So do i just go out and shoot this thing and carry once in awhile , or does it get put away so as not to ruin the value ?

Welcome to the forum,
The Shorty 40 is a great firearm, I own two.
Shoot it, clean it, lube it and start the process all over again.
You aren't going to wear it out.

Welcome to the forum, as bad man said the Shoty 40 is a great pistol. I like you fell in love with the first one that I saw, circ. 1992/3. Then I just had to have one. I found my first one, new 2nd generation pistol, at a gun show in January of '95. Two months later the same dealer had a 1st generation demo gun that I just had to have. Since this was a demo gun I didn't feel so bad about shooting it. The 2nd generation pistol is still NIB in the safe.

While this is a combat pistol it is extremely accurate, I dare say the PC pistols are the best S&W has to offer...and at an affordable price for what you get. A custom pistol would easily cost twice as much given the modifications to these pistols.

I know there were some 1500 1st generation pistols made, however I haven't seen any totals from subseqent runs. To my knowledge the Shorty 40 2000 is the last generation of the Shorty 40. I do like the way this generation looks.

Here is a thread that I started some time ago that has some information on the Shorty 40 and other PC pistols. Grinder is the resident guru for PC pistols. He has a post in this thread that shows all but the 2nd generation pistol.

PC Pic Thread...Let's see those PC pistols...

I can't answer your question for you, you should shoot the pistol if you want to. If it's NIB I would have difficulty shooting it, but then again I have a shooter. Either way you have a pistol that you will enjoy for years to come.

Cheers,
Sam
