Shorty 40 and 3566 both use the 6906 frame?

I picked up a Shorty 40 two-tone that comes with a 9mm barrel and slide. I wanted to know if the Shorty 40 (and the 3566 compact) used the 6906 frame? If so then I essentially got a combo Shorty 40 and 3566 compact?

Thanks!

The Shorty 40 or at least my mk3 model uses a 4006 frame even says so on the box as the model number is on there.

I attached a picture of my new Shorty 40 wearing the 9mm slide and a pic of a 3566 compact I pulled of the internet. Hmm. So what in the world is the extra slide from then? It looks just like the 3566 slide, plus a ambi safety. Overall the frame sizes seem identical.

What kind of monstrosity have I acquired?

could be from any third gen 9mm short framed hand gun. People shoot 9mm out of 40s all the time. The price of the ammo is a lot cheaper for those that shoot a lot.

The 3566 compact and the SD series all used 6900 size frames, but they were stainless not alloy. I would guess that the gun was sent in to have the slide fitted by the PC. That does appear to be a 3566 compact slide and they would fit 9mm barrels to them at one time. I have a full sized 3566 that has both 9x19 and .356tsw (9x21.5) barrels for it. Is your barrel marked 9mm? And if you have the dual spring setup you may need to remove the inner spring when shooting 9mm's.

Awesome! Thanks for the information, that confirms what I hoped was true.

Yes the 9mm barrel is marked.

I also have the full size 3566 and both barrels, which was a very recent acquisition, and since I hate my wallet, when I came across this Shorty I couldn't pass this up, no way no how.

This would harken back to the days when S&W was a gun maker and not a profit center. They built beautifully functioning firearms and did custom work.

But, I digress. Or do I?
