Well, my doctor released me to return to work, on light duty, starting the 18th. Interpreting that to mean "you can do stuff, just take it easy", I shot the first 10 rounds through my 9mm Shield today. We'll not do that again for a while. As Forest Gump would say,"stupid is as stupid does", and I was stupid. Suffice it to say, I can feel it, not bad, but I can feel it.

All that aside, I have now shot my Shield, and I like it a lot. Minimal recoil, very accurate for its' size, carries easily and conceals very well in a Sticky holster, and not a bad trigger considering what I've read here and elsewhere. I doubt I'll change anything other than some sights that cater to my poor vision a little better. I'm now looking forward to the next time I go to shoot (maybe after another month or so of healing). :D

Get well, get well soon, we want you to get well!!!

Is it a "safety-less" shield? C'mom, let's stir the mud up while you recover.

Mine has the safety, but it was previously owned, and at $314, I wasn't going to let it get away. They've been few and far between around here, with prices floating around $400 +/-. The nice thing about it, I can simply leave it disengaged if I so desire. Since I carry it in a Sticky holster, I don't have to worry getting something caught in the trigger, I simply return the gun to the holster, and insert the whole affair back in my waistband. I'm covered either way.

Now, sling that mud. :D

One other positive... the Shield fired my reloads and my chosen defense ammo, wonderfully. Win, win all around.

Nicely done. That's how I plan on doing too. Just ordered a couple of sheets of skateboard tape. Looks like just one patch each section and no relief cuts necessary, right?

That skateboard tape, Gunny?

Actually, this is a modified Talon grip. I liked the full coverage, but the grip actually snagged on the holster like velcro, making a draw all but impossible. By removing all but the material on the front and rear strap area, the problem was solved. In hindsight, had I known this would be a problem, I would have used the Talon rubber grip instead, and still may.

M&Pmeister, there are relief cuts down the back in order to mate to the curve of the back strap area. I'll try and post a pic of it.

Here you go.

Thanks gunny. That helps a lot. I've got a whole sheet of it, so I can afford a few screw ups before getting it right.

I know what you mean about snagging on holster and clothing. I'll try just the front first, as that is usually where I need the most grip on a subcompact.

Hope ya heal fast and well !

Will my little Shield conceal easier if I actually have my appendix removed?
I was out to the range again this week and my Shield seems to get smoother all the time. Still a bit cranky on the slide racking, but either it's loosening up just a tad or I'm just getting used to the little bugger....

Found two boxes of 124g HSTs for $21 a box this morning.... life is GOOD...
I'm up in the nawth woods currently, and ya never know when an enraged porcupine might attack out of nowheres ..... I just hope I can click the TS down before it's too late!

Have FUN and shoot SAFE.

Quadruple bypass. :( Split me like a grape and took about a 1/4 mile of spare vein out of my leg to redo the plumbing. Not exactly what I had planned for the Summer.

Also, Welcome to the forum. :)

Hey thanks! Glad you're on the mend. Mind those doctors orders!! :)

Had that done a couple years ago. They told me the sooner I started walking the sooner I would be out shooting again. I walked that afternoon, they chased me down the hall yelling that I had to have all the equipment off first. In on Monday afternoon home Friday making dinner, nothing to it. Medicine is amazing these days. My dad was one of the first ever in this country years ago and he recuperated for 6 months before he was allowed to walk stairs.

Sorry about the hijack, just had to share. Back on track, I like your work on the grips. I don't have a Shield yet...

Martya, No problem at all. They can certainly do wonders. I had surgery on June 25th, released on July 4th, released to return to work on the 18th of August (albeit on light duty). Hopefully by the end of the year I'll be 100%. Have to do plenty of walking, and maybe some snow shoeing when the white stuff drops.

Now go get yourself a Shield. :D

Quadruple bypass!!! You should have listened to the DOC!

Hope you are back to full speed soon.

Ray

I feel you pain, I had neck surgery and my Dr. Told me the only thing I can do is sleep and walk. Can't even reload! Hope that will change in two weeks when I see him again.

Glad you like your shield. I shoot mine as often as a I can. Hope you get back to 100% soon
