Since 10 gauge hulls are expensive and hard to come by, I bought a set of adapters to fire 20 gauge 2 3/4 shells out of. So far they have worked well, patterning beyond expectation. The only problem is HUGE reduction in velocity and a lot of smudge and carbon everywhere. I was curious as to anyone else's experience with them has been, and one question, does constantly using the steel inserts, even with oil, ever mark, wear or do anything bad to the chambers with repeated use?

I have a set of GaugeMate-Silver that reduces 10 ga. to 12 ga. I don't see how they will wear a chamber any worse than a regular shell that has a metal base. Larry

A few shooters at the skeet & SC range I shoot at toy with them occasionally.
Other than the carbon problem and kind of messy from handling them through a round, they work fine.

The 20ga wad through a 10ga bore probably barely seals.
You'd probably get much better velocity retention if stepping down to a 12ga in a 10.
But they are just for fun and if they pattern nice and break some clays, that's what they are for.

I've never heard from any of the users of any damage or problems using them. They always scrub the chambers clean and oil after using them to remove the carbon but that's a standard practice anyway.

I have a friend who is a professional taxidermist for a MAJOR museum (his work has been shown in the Smithsonian). He uses a smaller gauge insert for collecting birds when the museum sends him overseas.

Take to the range. Pattern them with at least 4 different shot sizes and maybe 1200 and 1300 feet per second loads. I've tried shooting 410 in a Full choked 20 gauge and got terrible results. Hopefully your results will very.

Ivan

PS, I shot Sporting Clays with a guy using Browning "Little Skeeters" to reduce 12 down to 20 and he shot very well and only a little slower reloading in the stand (he had a knock out rod about 8" long with him at all times,) itb
