Should I buy?

I went to a local gun store in riverside yesterday and saw three smiths. They had a stainless 29-2 with presentation case for 750. A 10-8 with a heavy barrel for 475 and another pistol labeled as a model 10 but I think it was a pre model ten because on the inside it didn't say mod 10 but had a serial for 399. I was not to concerned about the 10-8, but the 29 seemed like a good deal, but I am not a big fan of SS, and am on the fence about purchasing. I should probably act fast because they probably won't be there long.

If it's a factory finish,it would be nickle.

It could of been. I didn't hold it, because I knew if I did, I would buy it.

Keep in mind if the hammer and trigger are also plated then it's not factory. And it could also be a hard chrome finish which is often mistaken for for stainless. I never understood how anyone could mistake that until I learned right here that Browning never made a stainless BHP... And I thought mine was stainless...

Thats why I though, but all my other smiths are blued. They open at 1030PST so if it is still there, I might have to big it up.

I will have to take a better look at it today. I didn't jump on it yesterday because I wasn't sure if I wanted it and if I could sneak it into the collection without the wife knowing. As far as se is concerned, all the smiths are the same gun. She thinks they are all the same.

What is the barrel length on the M29-2?

It's a six inch barrel on the 29.

If I had the cash, I'd snap up the 29. That and a 3913 are the two Smiths that I really regret letting go.

I'd check it closely to make sure it's not a refinished revolver but if it's an original nickel finish and in good shape then I might give it a go.

If it's marked 29-2, it isn't stainless. It is either factory nickle (shiny) or an aftermarket finish of some type, there are many different ones.

I have a 29-2 4 inch nickle I bought new in the 70's. It is one of my favorites. Check it closely as suggested then buy it and enjoy what it can do. 44 specials and 44 mags both are a delight in that gun.
