Should I buy

My daughter has a pink Cricket. It is a accurate little single shot. My boy just got a really nice older Marlin 15Y. It does teach them to make each shot count, but you can load one shot in the 15-22 as well. IMO, I would get the 15-22 now just to have why you can still buy it. You can always put it away (yeah right!) and get them the little bolt action for now.

I would start them with irons first before adding an optic. That is a skill any shooter needs because optics do fail.

I love Crickets to teach YOUNG kids how to shoot, but the rifle itself is tiny and once your kid gets bigger, the rifle will be too small.

If this was 2 months ago I would say get the 15-22 if that floats your boat, but today, in the height of the gun panic, if you can find it for a good price I would get it, simply because it might be an investment.

That is true to a point. However, they are also selling as compact, back-packing rifles.
