should i carry?

Huh?

Hey, you posted 'Exception to this law include...' And that implies, given your reference to on duty LEO's, others are not included.

Be safe.

Intentional? Awe Hell no! My last sentence acknowledges that not all circumstances have been covered. Why would you ask this?

Seems to me that the LEOSA stuff is pretty clear by itself. I have my status and it just took a little reading and attention to detail to get up to date with the program.

However, perhaps this would be a time to debate having a forum dedicated to that topic alone? May keep the other threads a bit more "on topic".

Ummm...not getting your...question? Point? Am I to respond here? Or are you just making an observation.

Looked to me as though Sergntmac was referring only to the ILCS (I'm old, I recall it being 38 IRS 24-whatever). LEOSA is not a state law and probably is not referred to in the Illinois law.

You are correct, sir, thank you.

Indeed, the old laws were called "Chapter 38", and firearms violations were "Section 24". Mid 90's, the "Illinois Coded Statutes" (ILCS) overhauled the program to include others like Traffic and Juvenile codes into one.

Again...The law was spelled out in two paragraphs with a dozen pages of exceptions to the law, i.e. "COP-Gimmie your gun. CITIZEN STOPPED BY COP-But, I'm a cop too, here is my badge. COP-Never-mind.

Exceptions mean exemptions. People to whom the law may not apply to. NO, I did not mean to overlook any specific status, but merely explain that exceptions do exist.

Many times ^there y'all complained about Illinois law, and I thought/hoped to help out. Didn't seem to work out that way.

Illinois has a very high crime rate, thanks to Chicago. And, the Cook County prosecutors don't help. I'd love to share a few stories, but I am handicapped (IOD) and typing with a stylus on an iPad is very trying. Nonetheless, I gave it a shot.

LEOSA is rather simple to understand and it is as up to date as the law makers want it to be. As time passes, I hope to see some improvements but only time will tell.

Meanwhile...Being a newbie here, I can say (and without any bias towards anyone) there is clearly a very powerful sense of jealousy among y'all. Those who hold some special privileges due to their service and dedication to law enforcement are mocked and treated with rudeness by those who wish they could share in the benefits without paying the dues.

This is very wrong. Every LEO chose their path to serve and took the chances in stride. IMHO, y'all will never be any help to each other until this pettiness and jealousy is set aside. Until then...

Y'all be safe.

PS: I do not "imply" anything. Y'all will never have to wonder "what did he mean by that". If I have something to say, you will hear it.
